How do you go about and when do you go about thickening the main stalk? I want to make sure I get a strong enough plant to support the size I want.

I was thinking about doing that coiling method. Is that a good one? Here is a link to my grow log. Link

im sure you could get away with that. personally............
what i would do is build some type of center post thats very sturdy in the middle of the plants so that you can bend them that way and then i would tie them back the like the wall when they got bigger and then cut them lose to let them finish
thats just me. thats what i do..but yea you would be fine if you have the space and everything worked out
and ill be watching your grow

I'm not sure how what you mean because I don't see how it makes it any stronger. Unless you mean tie it, bend it for a while, release and tie again? Here is a picture of what you were talking about the way I'm hearing it.
This is the coiling thing I was thinking of, I thought it was good because it increases the surface area. Since I'm using cfl's I thought the best thing to do would be short and bushy.

bushy plants require more light to penetrate the canopy
but i see what youre saying, i mean it would work regardless
but yes what you drew is basically what im explaining its like if you damage a plant and rescue it in the spot that it was damaged it will be 10x stronger than the rest
probably not 10x but you get the idea

Just by having the light really close to the plant without burning it has caused my stalks to be pretty sturdy.

so you have like a portion that is laid on its side maybe a foot depending how big you want them
and then release them and let them grow straight up from that point
that bent over part acts kind of like a umm spring within the root system
of course a solid root system is the answer to the problems here

Is there a specif amount of time I am supposed to bend my plant? Like how long is too long and how long is too short? By the way thank you all. Some of the stuff I remember hearing but I forgot it was a factor so thanks for the reminders lol.

Hey one of the seedlings looks to be doing something like this. I assume it will correct itself?

Awesome. Is it odd that one of them has a bit of purple tint on first true leaves? I haven't seen any northern lights with purple on them.
