So I'm going to buy my reflector soon and I one question about it.
1.) Do I have to harden off my plants under it like I would with the sun? Or is it not powerful enough to do any damage when switching from CFLs to HPS?

yes you will, but it won't be too hard with just a 400W

I personally have no problem with "hardening off", once seedlings/clones are established I put them under 1000w hps with no problems. I tend to agree with this, proximity is key for adjusting light intensity.
