So I'm going to buy my reflector soon and I one question about it.
1.) Do I have to harden off my plants under it like I would with the sun? Or is it not powerful enough to do any damage when switching from CFLs to HPS?

I personally have no problem with "hardening off", once seedlings/clones are established I put them under 1000w hps with no problems. But I keep my light 3 1/2 feet above a new batch of seeds or clones and let them grow into it. They finish around 2 1/2 feet tall, so the light never moves and ends up being a foot over them. In a sense, self adjusting...
I tend to agree with this, proximity is key for adjusting light intensity.
