2010 Grow Suggestions (upcoming grow log)
    #390188 - 03/26/10 12:06 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I ordered:
•passiflora incarnata seeds
•purple Russian tomato seeds
•black krim tomato seeds
•green red Vein Thai kratom seeds
•Peruvian torch seeds
•hbwr seeds
•lions tail (klip dagga) seeds
•papavera somniferum seeds
•chamomile seeds
•mimosa hostilis seeds
•nicotiana rustica seeds
•nicotiana tobacum seeds

So I was wondering if there were any suggestions on growing any of these plants. Can any of them be grown indoors successfully and what are some suggestions for proper nutrition for any of the above. What are the longest germination rates and what is time length until harvest on average. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I plan on making a grow log so hope you all follow along!

That's exactly what im talking about. There isn't any good get high herbs besides our buddy ganj but what are some good for: insomnia, waking up, pain, anxiety, depression, anger, etc. And anyone know any strange fruit or vegetables? I had no clue there was different strains of tomato. The black krim and purple Russian were very strange to me, and I'm excited to see them grow.

Tarragon Artemisia dracunculus:

Harvest the young leaves and shoots before the flower buds develop, when the plant is at its most aromatic and yields the greatest amount of natural oil, dry them as quickly as possible at a constant temperature of about 35c/95F and keep them stored in airtight jars, tarrogons distinctive taste makes it an essential ingredient in many dishs but its delicate flavour will be swamped if its used with other strongly flavoured herbs, such as thyme or rosemary, for the same reason it should not be cooked for more than a few minutes or should be added to dishes just before serving.

TARRAGON VINEGAR:
Sprigs of fresh tarragon to fill 1pt jar
2 strips lemon ring
1 clove
white whine vinegar

Pack the jar loosely with tarragon, ass the lemon ring and close, pour on enough vinegar to fill jar and allow to stand for a month, shaking occasionally. strain and bottle, a branch of tarragon can be added to the bottle to give it a strong flavour.

Tartare sauce:

This makes a delicious accompaniment to fried or grilled fish and to grilled steak. it is easy to make and the home-made variety has a far more subtle flavour than the commercial types.

1 shallot
6 sprigs fresh tarragon
3 sprigs fresh chervil
15ml (1tbs) capers or pickled nasturtium seeds
1 gherkin
2 egg yolks
2.5ml (1/2 tsp) dry mustard
salt and pepper
5ml wine vinegar
150ml (1/4 pint) olive oil

Chop shallot, tarragon, chervil, capers and gherkin very finely and put in mixing bowl. stir in the raw egg yolks and mustard, and season well with salt and pepper. very gradually add the vinegar, stir well, and then add the oil a little at a time. store in the refrigerator.

Tarragon and egg tarts (serves 4)

225g (8 oz) shortcrust pastry
25g butted
25g flour
300m milk and cream
15ml (1tbsp) chopped fresh tarragon
salt and pepper
4 eggs

Roll out the pastry thinly and line four 10 cm tart tins. prick well and refrigerate for 30 mins, bake blind at 220c/425Fusing baking beans/weights until the pastry is set. meanwhile, heat the butter and stir in the flour to make a smooth paste, gradually ass the combined milk and cream, bring to boil and cook gently for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth and thick. stir in the chopped tarragon and season with salt and pepper. keep hot, stirring occasionally. Break an egg into each pastry case , return to oven and bake at 180c/350F for 15 minutes. cover with the hot sauce and serve immediately

VALERIAN Valerian oficinalis:

Valerian tea:

THis soporific tea will not produce unpleasant side effect like some commercial sedatives do, and is very beneficial in providing a natural sleeping draught at times of stress, it should not however be taken as a regular cure for insomnia, consult a doctor if its severe.

Into a cup of warm milk blend 1 tsp of dried valerian root which has been pounded using a mortar and pestle. the strong taste can be offset by adding a teaspoon of honey or brown sugar

Rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis:
Rosemary has long been known for its therapeutic powers, try placing a sprig under the pillow of a sleeper who suffers nightmares, it often produces a miracle cure.

Rosemary oil:

rubbed gently onto the skin, this will help carm the nerves and increase circulation, and a few drops added to the bathwater will help bring relief to those suffering from rheumatism.

400ml almond oil
15ml (1tbsp)  white wine vinegar
sprig of fresh rosemary (bruised)
2-3 juniper berries (optional)

fill a 0.5 litre bottle with the ingredients in it for a month in a sunny window ledge or if the weathor is cold place it near a warm place/cupboard.

Rosemary tea:

This can be used as an aid to digestion and taken at bedtime as a soothing drink to calm the nerves and induce sleep. use about 1 tbsp of crushed rosemary leaves- fresh is better than dried- per cup of boiling water

Rosemary Hair conditioner:

This is a gypsie cure, it has an excellent conditioning effect on the hair, preventing dandruff and even curing baldness (allegedly), to make it take a bunch of fresh rosemary and crush or chop the leaves, Add 300ml boiling water and allow to stand for an hour, then strain. use it as a final rinse after washing and towel drying your hair

SavorySatureia

Savory is useful as a general tonic. A mild tea made with a few crushed dried leaves and boiling water had a pleasant, warming effect and since savory, like rue, is reputed to sharpen the eyesight, use it also to relieve eyestrain due to overtiredness or bad lighting. It will also help to disguise the flavour of unpalatable medicine, and a few leaves added to a bottle of white wine makes a refreshing tonic. In an emergency crushed leaves of savory can be rubbed on a bee sting to provide rapid relief.

Nasturtium Tropaeolum majus

Apart from the general usefulness of nasturtium plants to the gardener, the flowers look pretty and both the leaves and flowers can be eaten as they are or added to salads and sandwiches to provide a vitamin supplement. For those who suffer from catarrh or chest infections, an infusion made from 7g of finely shredded fresh leaves steeped for a few minutes in 300ml boiling water , then strained will help to bring relief. A fresh infusion should be made and sipped daily.

Crushed Nasturtium seeds added to a little hot water and applied as a poultice, held in place with a muslin or soft cotton compress, will help draw a painful stye.

Nasturtium leaves and flowers have a peppery flavour without the harshness and indigestability of pepper, which makes them useful in the kitchen as a pepper substitute. they can be added to mild egg and cheese dishes or to salads to give them a spicy lift.

Nasturtium hair tonic:

This makes a refreshing hair lotion which can be massaged into the scalp or applied on a hair brush

75g each of naturtium flowers, seeds and leaves
75g young nettles
600m alchohol
few drops rosemary oil

mince the nasturtiums and nettles in a mincer and steep in the alchohol for atleast a week, when thoroughly marinaded, strain and add a few drops of rosemary oil

Lovage Levisticum officinale

Because of its antisceptic properties, lovage can be used to treat wounds and a tea made from lovage leaves has a cleansing effect, particularly beneficial for the kidneys. Lovage also acts as a deodorant and a few crushed leaves added to bathwater have a very refreshing effect.

Lovage is great in the kitchen but use the seeds sparingly as they have a strong flavour, it is good in soups, salads, white sauce, casseroles, young lovage leaves and stalks make a good vegetable on their own if they are chopped and simmpered in boiling salted wate until tender

The blanched stems also make a good celery substitute

Sage Salvia officinalis:

A popular drink in holland is made by adding a few leaves of sage to a bup of hot milk, on a cold day this has a pleasant warming effect. Sage is also useful medicinally and cosmetically.

a bunch of fresh sage leaves tied together and held under the hot tap when running a bath will wash the healing oils into the water and will help give relief to people suffering from rheumatism.

A few sage leaves rubbed gently on the teeth will remove plaque, help clear stains and stimulate the gums.

Sage tea:

This is not only a refreshing drink but acts as a general tonic and stimulant to the body, easing liver complaints, constipation, and the pain and stiffness of rheumatism.

Pour 600m boiling water over 25g fresh sage leaves or 15ml (1tbsp) dried and allow to stand for 5 minutes, add a squeeze of lemon juice and a little honey if liked.

Sage astringent:

Safe acts as a natural astringent and is beneficial to those with oily skins and open or damages pores.

150ml boiling water
2 tbsp chopped fresh sage
150m cider vinegar

pour the boiling water over the sage and allow to stand until cool. strain and add the vinegar. keep in a screw top jar or bottle and apply with cotton wool after first washing the face

Borage Borago officinalis

Borage is chiefly used medicinally to relieve catarrh and colds and the headaches associated with them, although in the past it was also used as a general tonic. Make a hot infusion by adding 1 tbsp of finely chopped borage leaves to a cup of boiling water, allow to stand for 5-10  minutes before straining, and then drink.

this is useful for those with dry skins, make it by adding an egg yolk and 1 tsp of almond oil to a borage infusion as described above, add to a paste made with 7g (1/4 ounce) and a little water, apply the mixture evenly to a clean dried skin, leave on for 10 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

HERB punch:
This a non alchoholic punch unfortuantly, its tasty though :jah:

2tbsp lemon balm
2 tbsp chopped fresh borage
1 tbsp spearmint
1 litre strong tea
juice of 6 lemons
juice of 2 oranges
170ml fresh fruit juice ( apple or pineapple is best)
sugar syrup (1 cup sugar + half cup water)

Sprigs of thyme can be added to bathwater for a refreshing and relaxing perfumed bath, it is a useful culinary herb in stews, soups and sauces or places on top of roast lamb or pork before cooking.

Skin tonic:

take 1 tsp of dried thyme leaves and flowers or 1 tbsp of fresh thyme and add 200ml boiling water. allow to stand for 30 minutes, then strain, apply to the face with cotton wool or pour into a warm bath, and it will help sooth and soften the skin to aid the healing of skin irritations. the tonic will stay fresh for a few days to a week if stored in a sealed container in the fridge

Thyme tea:

Pour 600ml boiling water over 2 tdp of dried thyme or 3 tsp of fresh tyme which has been bruised or coarsely chopped, allow to stand for about 10 minutes. honey can be added as a sweetener.

this herbal tea will relieve headaches bought on by tension, overtiredness, working in a smoky atmosphere , or other minor reasons, and because of its antisceptic properties will also ease sore throats, colds and chest infections.

Damn thanks alot man! That will be very helpful!

Today I bought a ton of seeds. I got strawberry, MG heavenly blue, spearmint, lavender, echinacea, basil (red Rubin)... More like purple.., and some nicotiana sylevstris; I was wondering if this is a good smoke? I heard that it's one of the parent plants of nicotiana tobacum. Since nicotiana tobacum is a strange plant. Anyone ever smoke it. It's common name is nicotiana peace pipe & woodland tobacco. Also I ordered some other good seeds from some people on here. Recently I got some supposed nicotiana rustica from easter island that's supposed to be very potent, passiflora incarnata, marihuanilla, okra, and some others.

I am in the process of trying to keep my house right now, economy is horrible. But I decieded to not grow all of them and just grow a few of most of them, incase I gotta up and leave... I'm very disappointed.. But I will make the best of this grow. And hope for the best.
