Smallest space for a 600w

What's the smallest cab anyone has used a 600w in? I understand there's a 50w per square foot rule of thumb, but I'd also like to hear people's real experience with this.
I wonder how this light would play out in a 2.5x2.5x5 foot dresser.

600W in that kind of space sounds like overkill to me.
Remember that there is an optimal distance for lights the lights. There is such a thing as too close.
Also, do you have any idea the kind of cooling your gonna need for that kind of light?
If you're wanting to do a stealth grow inside a dresser, I can't say you should be looking at 600W HIDs.

Gonna use a cool tube. I've seen people with plants actually touching a cool tube using a 400W, so I figured a 600 might not be that much harder to manage.

I use a cooltube:
I guarantee you, the tube is still fairly warm even if it's cooled. It's not good to let your plants touch the glass of the tube nor is it good to allow plants to get within that distance of it.
However, it seems that you know what your doing. Not sure why you even asked in the first place.

Just curious to hear about how far people have actually pushed the envelope, despite the technical guidelines. I was kind of contemplating the 600w in a dresser cab, but you snapped me out of it.

Shit gets very complicated when your trying to grow with high watt HIDs in very confined spaces because of temperature. The tops of my plants still hang around 27-28C even with cooling on that light and I have a 400watt and the ambient room temp is only like 22-23C. Just because your shits getting cooled doesn't mean it's still not hot.
You can still grow insane bud with lower watt HID - It's just a matter of using your light in the most efficient way (thats when that chart becomes useful.)

To be fair, a $25 stanley blower will exhaust a 600w and that small cab. However, you would have no margin for error in the event of a fan failure, etc.

Agreed, I would increase the size of the cab or consider dropping a 250/400 HPS in and supplementing with LEDs as they generate virtually no heat.

400's where it's at then. The dimensions of the cab are subject to ongoing change right now, as its still conceptual at this point. If I can get a decent sized dresser, or a tall, 4 ft wide dining room type thing, I'll be happy.

Someone on here rigged up one of those server rack things. Really clever idea imo.

For box contruction I really likes what harry did with the metal shelving unit and foil coated styrofoam. nothing but a screwdriver and a knife needed to assemble and it's totally modular. definitely going to do that for my next box.
For the light I will echo what the others said, yeah you can fit it in there but in such a small space it's more trouble then the benefit is worth. grab a 400 or a 250 thats still a shit load of light in a 2.5x2.5 foot box, remember none of it is being wasted

Thanks for all the replies guys. You're a truly helpful bunch.
The cab will sit next to an open window in spring/summer/fall. Stealth is important, so the thing has to ventilate silently. So I'm thinking either an S&P, or a Sunleaves Windtunnel for a fan. I would ideally like the cooltube to be ventilated separate from the rest of the cab so it gets its own fresh air supply, but I'm worried about the costs of two fans. So, what quiet fan might be sufficient for exhausting that area through a carbon filter (pulling air) at a decent (cheap) price? Or would you just use one good fan for both cooling and exhaust?
