Shopping List for the Hydro Store

Yesterday my Homebox S with a 4" carbon filter and flange came the other day. I'll be vegging clones and then flowering them in there in soil. I'm going to the local hydro shop tomorrow or the next day for the light and everything else. I'm sure I'm going to forget things as this is my first grow, so I thought I'd ask for help with a shopping list. I'm willing to use a different light size/kind if you guys think it'd be better for my grow tent.
I'll start a list here and edit this post as people add things.
-400w HPS + MH conversion bulb w/ ballast, air-cooled -exhaust fan (180m3) -pro-mix -plastic pots (3 gal.) -circulation fan -nutrients -ambient air + thermo-hydrometer combo -pH tests -small caster platform for each pot
Any additions would be greatly appreciated, even small things like tools and whatnot. Thanks a lot, everyone!

I apologize, here's the link (http://www.homebox.net/dhtml/product_family_homebox_s.php) and it came with an "ELF 4-inch Charcoal Filter."

Any additions would be greatly appreciated, even small things like tools and whatnot. Thanks a lot, everyone!
What is your budget for all of this?

Oh money isn't too much of an issue. I'm willing to pay for what I need obviously.

looks good to me. I would ditch the barometer as that's basically useless, but keep the thermometer for the air. you can also ditch the soil thermometer and heating pad. cold roots never really hurt anything (within reason), and in fact you'll be glad the roots are cooler if the air temps in your tent get too high.
I would definitely air cool your lights. very important for keeping the air temps reasonable in your tent.
how big of plants you thinking? usually 1 gallon pots are good, but if you're doing soil then 3-5 gallon pots would be great too

Alright I made your changes for the most part, I swapped out the heating pad for some casters which will let me rotate/move the plants easier and also give them a few inches buffer from the concrete. I'm a little paranoid about the temperature situation because I'm growing for the first time and out in an outbuilding, so I'll keep the soil thermometer.
I basically want the plants to get as big as they can, and I can always train them if they get too tall, right? So should I just go big with the 5 gal. or stay with 3 gal.?
By the way, thanks for the help everyone.

By the way, speaking of budget, anyone want to take a rough estimate at what the above the supplies are gonna run me? I'll probably be getting middle of the line quality stuff.

-400w? HPS w/ ballast, air-cooled (information appreciated) 400w is a really good mid-range light. Obviously you would benefit from higher wattage HIDs but of course the question of money comes into play. However, your tent is probably two small for a high watt light. Also, consider getting a MH conversion bulb for vegging. Make sure the reflector is air-cool-able; that's really important. I'd say it'll cost anywhere from 180-300USD. I can't believe what you guys pay for this stuff in the US btw -exhaust fan (180m3) Sounds good. I'd say the fan will cost you as much as the light. Again, cannot believe what this shit costs over there. -organic soil or soil-less mix Woah, woah, woah.... this is a really big question. Maybe you need to think things through a little more. -plastic pots (gal. suggestions?) I guess 1g would be fine for your tent size. I can't comment on the price really, but it'll be very low. -circulation fan Oscillating fans are great! Around 10USD. -nutrients You need to figure out whether your doing soilless or soil. -ambient air + soil thermometer I would forgo the soil thermometer and buy a thermo-hydrometer combo. -pH and EC testers PH is key, the EC meter I believe is only really useful for hydro. -small caster platform for each pot What?
Throw some PH Buffers in there and I'd say your pretty good to go.

Nice reply Spency, thanks a lot, changes made.
I was under the impression that fast-draining pro-mixes were basically used the same as soil-less mixes? Please enlighten me.
Also, should I get an MH bulb or just a couple florescent's to supplement the HPS during vegging?

I'm not sure what you mean by a fast draining pro mix being used as a soil-less mix. From my understanding, growing soil-lessly is growing hydroponically. Maybe I need to be enlightened.
Now in regards to the MH. I would completely forget the Floros and would recommend a 400W MH Conversion bulb. These bulbs are built to work in HPS ballasts. Your plants would benefit enormously from this during their vegetative growth period, as plants use more blue spectrum light during vegetative growth. Plants apparently have a higher tendency to be female if under blue spectrum light during vegetative growth.
Any supplementary light from floros would help but is not necessary.

I'll just use pro-mix, I guess I thought there were bags of this soil-less soil that you poured into a pot just like pro-mix. Don't know where I got that one, sorry.
Oh and the reason I'm not sure about the conversion bulb is because I thought I might get another tent in the future and have one for vegging and one for flowering.

You're right Nick. Pro-Mix IS the soil-less soil. They call it, "a "general purpose" peat-based growing medium."
I'd go with 2-3gal. pots. You shouldn't need anything bigger under a 400W. There IS such thing as too much root space, IME.

Ok, I think the list is ready, I'm gonna go ahead and get the conversion bulb for now as it may be a year or two until I actually get around to getting another tent lol.
And thanks for the clarification, Dr.
