Does anyone know the brand name of something similar to the expanded clay pellets called hydroton? Preferably from Home Depot or Lowes.

Yeah they are out. I have bought it before at Home Depot. I just forget what the brand name was and they did sell it as expanded clay pellets. I will just have to go look.

Hmm, go in and ask for "LECA" (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate), it's the generic term for Hydroton.

Couldn't find any. I will just have to wait until it stops snowing to get the bag I had. Its in a bag in the back at my parents. Until then I got some small river rock. I will use it as my medium for now. Updates soon!

Home Depot also has crushed brick and smooth white stones in their outdoor garden section that I've used in the past and worked well.
I'm thinking 10 lb bag was $3.75.
Been a year or two since I've bought any.

Yeah I just got some river stones for now. The water still flows through them. Ill upgrade to some expanded clay pellets eventually though.

volcanic rock (lava rock) can serve the same purpose as hydroton i believe. it's a more easily findable alternative, but i wouldn't consider it to be ideal.
