Mine are shit and i'm trying to improve them as school isn't getting any easier. So i'm asking all you scholars out there for some tips. Just little things that help motivate you or just help you get shit done in a more efficient manner. I know step one is to get off of here but i'm in the middle of studying for a test tomorrow and I need some help.
So help a brother out if you can

don't put shit off until the last minute is my main tip. if you don't do it, who will? I used to procrastinate on homework because I never wanted to do it but then I realized I hate it no matter when I do it, so why not just do it quick and get it out of the way? cramming at the last second makes you hate it 10x more IME.

Yeah, that's definitely a habit I've been trying to break for years. I was hoping you'd pop in this thread. You're pretty intelligent and seem studious. Any other advice aside from doing shit on time?
Where's everybody else at? I know Harry can't be the only person on here that studies.

the thing that always helped most for studying for tests was flash cards. I remember shit way better if I write it down, so making the cards was 50% of the battle, and then just flip through them 2-3 times and I usually had everything down well enough to get A's on the test. the key is not skimping on the cards though, the more you make (and don't make big ones, just one fact per card, but detailed specific facts are key) the more you'll know for the test. Don't just make cards for what you think the professor will ask, make cards for everything. better to make a card you don't need than to wish you had made a card when the professor asks a question you don't know.
Also, for homework just take pride in what you do don't rush through it because a high quality project makes me feel awesome inside, way better than a bunch of C's even though I get exhausted and hella stressed while I'm working on it. the payoff of a gorgeous paper or research summary is orgasmic

Thanks for the tips. School really got to me today. I had two tests that I wasn't as prepared for as I thought and I have another one tomorrow. I was really trying to start this semester off right so I wasn't playing catch up like every other semester. Such is life I guess Back to the books for now.

my main tip would just try to stay organized, a planner is good. Dont just write in the due dates aswell, write in the times you are planning to work on stuff too.

just keep a pen/marker handy and it's almost hard NOT to jot down stuff. keeping certain folders for whatever subjects helps too. when i was younger i ALWAYS had a folder or notebook to jot shit down. (i wish i still had them, it'd make for interesting reading material now), but point being: flex your miiiiind man, and document everything!
hmmm, i believe i am drunk now...

I just got done looking at about 5 powerpoint presentations myself. The notes hardly go along with the book so it's a bit difficult to cross reference anything. Also I had to study for two psych tests where each professor was basically teaching the exact opposite of the other. Keeping that separate is going to be a bitch all semester I'm sure.

yeah, so you know your diploma will be worth all that money. i fucking hate teachers like that. the classroom environment should be full of discussion, with all classmates participating. that way you get a wide range of perspectives but it forces interest. which isn't a wonderful thing, but its better than nothing. anyway, i never had a hard time studying shit i didn't care for. I did have a hard time reading entire books of bullshit literature. but w/e. Think of it as a time to not only focus on what you are studying but focus, consciously, on how you are studying. work on your level of focus/concentration. do not let your mind wander to other interests. just focus hard for 30 minutes or so, or long enough to where you can take a 5 minute break, then do so. Also, if you are working on a particularly difficult problem you cant solve then go outside and play frisbee and think about chronic and fucking for a while then refocus when you sit back down to tackle the problem. That's something that's really helped me throughout my career and in college i got two b's, the rest were A's. i study and test well.

Yeah but I would say that community colleges have more of the "rotten asshole" types. My english teacher doesnt even spell some words right. I have been tempted to send her an e-mail with a bunch of corrections if she ever grades my spelling.

Right on. I had a class called the history and evolution of human food. twas taught by a guy who got his undergrad at harvard, a phd from stanford, and did a NATO post doctoral fellowship in Germany. He is the dean at the honors college at ASU, anyway that was one of my first classes over there and it was amazing. There were a dozen or so people in the class. The professor never gave a lecture. The students were responsible for reading the material and one person read a bit more and the students gave the lecture. This really facilitated an open discussion. A lot of the shit was way over my head but the discussions really helped me gain an understanding of the material. I really really liked that style of class.

I'm getting my ass handed to me in college algebra.
Which is sad because I'm great in math, but this teacher is by far the worst math teacher I have ever had... ok second worst. The worst was the assistant wrestling coach at my HS. But still pretty horrible, no teaching or lecture. All just "what did you guys have problems with" but he has no discussion over the problems people couldn't do. He just does them, he doesn't define properties or tell us equations. I'm dropping the class to retake it with a different teacher. After I told my coach that I hated my teacher she responded with "I let you take a class with him?" I just can't risk having a bad teacher in algebra. Especially since I am going to be a chemistry major + certified to teach HS in Kansas.
I love lecture, especially with power point. Print them off 3 to a page, and they come with a section to take notes on next to the slide.

But on the issue of study habits.
If they have power points; print them off 3 to a page. Take notes next to the slides, some of them wont be used for notes, but those are usually the slides with pictures/graphs so just take note of them.
Harry said to not put off to last minute, and it it the best advise. Also, don't be like me last spring and skip all your classes for a month. Having to work your ass off to regain scholarship/financial aid sucks. Last semestor I got a 3.4 though, with a D in general psych (I skiped this class to much+no powerpoint)
I hate to say powerpoints are so important, but to me printing them off 3 to a slide is really the best notes I could ever take. I write in shorthand anyway so I don't mind them essentially being an outline of the book/chapter/section

Good point man! I used to do that too. Depending on the lecturer. Sometimes all professors do is read shit from the slides word for word, no need to even go to those lectures. but those are usually good to study from. we also used blackboard. it was kinda cool. There were discussions online that supplement the in-class work. you'll get what you put into school. unless you're a complete dumbass.

I haven't had a word for word teacher yet. In fact this is the first teacher in college that I consider just plain bad. I mean my psych teacher last semester was bad, but for people that can handle his class I am sure it is great. If I were there everyday I would of probably gotten a high C or a B. He was horribly dry though, and talked about his cat a lot. He also told us about a time he had a peyote bud when he lived in denver.

yeah, I basically had an adderall addiction one semester (I know, totally laughable compared to meth or something), where I was on it every day for a couple months. I was pwning the shit out of all my tests but it made me feel like absolute shit and fucked my brain up something fierce in terms of paranoia and anger etc

what if he has no short term memory? reviewing the night or morning before a test would be useless then.
then hopefully hell be studying long before the day before the test
