Help with Pollinating

I was wondering if you guys could help me with a couple quick questions.
I want to pollinate a plant of mine. I've got some ~1 month old pollen in the freezer I had planned on doing a paintbrush pollination.
So, when is the best time to pollinate?
Will intentionally pollinating a plant reduce the chances of hermies?
Do I need to select a prominent bud or can I use the lowest, darkest pistils on the plant?
Any other problems you can see me running into I'd appreciate if they could be pointed out...
Thanks guys, good grows ~DT

I'd say around 4-6 weeks before you intend to harvest.

I'd say the chances for it becoming hermaphroditic are about the same.

I wouldn't use the nicest bud, but I'd select a site that receives a good amount of light.

About the only thing I can offer up is that when you go to pollinate, make sure all the fans are off in the area you plan to do it in.

Right on Coda, Thanks for the help.
So when using the paintbrush method, are there any other precautions I should take? Like, should I spray the bud after a few hours to prevent cross pollination? Should I just try to use as little pollen as possible? I did cut it about 80/20 white flour/pollen...

Sorry man, afraid I've never done this so I couldn't offer you any advice in this area.

Use a q-tip if you have one, they are safer and more convenient than paintbrushes.
Turn off circulation fans 15 minutes in advance Roll q-tip around in pollen Shake q-tip to seperate loose pollen Lightly press the q-tip against the desired pistils Turn the fans back on 15+ minutes later
Just pollinating a few clusters of flowers can yield 50-100 seeds.

Is there such thing as just pollinating like, one small node's worth, say 20 pistils or something? Maybe end up with 10 seeds?
I'll take your advice on the qtip too.. Thanks

Yes, but be aware that a few random calyx's may yield seeds in other buds nearby. The pollen is near-microscopic and it takes just an exhale in the general direction of the effected nug to spread the pollen. Just use a Q-tip and find a small secondary bud that will still develop nicely. I usually go for the middle of the plant, not the best nugs but will still produce nice mature, viable seeds.
