I only have experience with shrooms, BUT....
I think psychedelics have a profound effect on peoples personalities and outlooks. Even one time experiences change people forever.
For example, I don't think I've ever met anyone that has tripped shrooms and hasn't said that "it was life changing."
I agree with psychedelics having a tendency to create insecurity complexes - this is just from personal experience however. I feel this is because, shrooms make me extremely introspective and so sometimes I discover things that I don't like about myself.
Personality - well lets face it, if you frequent other realities it's bound to make you act a little differently. I don't think this is a bad thing though. It comes off to me as simply a change in person due to a (or several) profound events. It happens to people for non-psychedelic reasons. When I went to my first funeral, I think that changed my personality. The first time I experienced an inipi ceremony, I think that changed my personality. These were just one time events, that had a profound effect on me and left me changed forever - no drugs in either.
Psychadelics can have a similar effect - but so what? It's awesome, and those people that think we're weird because we've tripped too much - fuck em.
Obviously, as many people have indicated - this does not make you dysfunctional. In fact, I'm sure there are people who became inspired and motivated due to their psychedelic experiments and have moved on to become successful people.
I heavily disagree with other drugs having equally profound effects on peoples personalities and outlooks - long term or short term.

Its not his stance on psychedelics that ruffles my feathers
anyone who uses drugs recreationally, then bashes other drug users for using a drug they don't like .... really pisses me off
They are the same people that claim that using crack one time makes you an addict
Such narrow minded bigotry really brings out the demon in me

How can you make that statement behind this one.....

How can you claim that someones first use of weed/cocaine/meth/heroin for the first time wasn't just as profound as your first funeral experience
Just because you didn't have any profound revelations from said drugs doesn't mean that someone else hasn't (or wont) have a profound personality change, be it positive or negative from a single experience with a drug or life changing experience like a funeral
What affects me one way may affect you another making a claim that drug 'X' is worse than drug 'Y' is a claim based on bias and ignorance in my opinion

This is just MY opinion, but I can NOT ever believe that someone could react worse to pot than something like meth. I've known WAYYY too many people turn their lives to shit from meth, not saying everyone who uses it does, it's just more likely to happen with something like meth than pot.

Niteowl, I think you and me or on the same page here.
What I meant by
Quote:

Was that, comparably, I think that, for example a first time trip leaves a more profound and lasting impression on the person. I really don't think a first time line of coke has such profound and lasting effects - I can say this from first hand experience.
However, you make a good point. Who's to say my first funeral was a more profound experience than someone else's first joint? Although, I have to admit, that is not at all what I was getting at. This was my explanation as to why I think psychedelics have more profound and lasting effects on people than other drugs. It is because essentially, psychedelics seem to tap into that spiritual side of humans very much - that's what I was getting at with the religious examples - I think psychedelics and religion are both mechanisms that tap into the same very unusual part of our brain. This is simply my own belief - I don't have anything to back that up with, though I'm sure some would agree with me.
I honestly do not believe the first time joint or first time line of coke, comparably, have as profound effects on personality as acid or shrooms. To a degree, I believe the same for long term.
Although, heroin and meth I can't really speak for - so I would like to retract my earlier statement and just say this: I think in general psychadelics leave more immediate and longer lasting effects on a persons personality, if not at least outlook on life.

Buddy said: Ok, so let's just take for instance the person who goes from being a studious teen, who's actual activites would be accepted by his parents. Who has a healthy interest in psychadelic drugs. For fun or for consciousness expansion(whatever you prefer). Who's quite down to earth. Who over the space of 5 years changes totally to someone who has an affinity towards fantasy, or random nonsense, or someone with some sort of insecurity complex. These are traits I've seen in friends that have taken acid(also a lot of pills, weed, and mushrooms) the most sustainedly over the last 5 or 6 years.
So why do you blame psychedelics for his personality change when he was obviously doing lots of other drugs too.
Your ignorance is showing.
Hell weed drastically changes ones personality.
I do not understand why are you singling out psychedelics.
As stated many times by other people ANY drug that is abused will change your personality.

psycehdelics will lead you away from what you think you love and believe and take you to what you do love and beleive, in the most true and pure form
maybe deep down humans as a race are weak minded, and drawn towards the ideals of fantasy and imagination, rather than the boring, everyday bullshit that the mindless zombies do day in, day out..
if anything psychedelics gave me a second perspective on reality as a whole, and I appreciate things for what they are..
