Sounds good, remember it's always more efficient to pull rather than push the air through your carbon filter. Are you going to put an air intake at the bottom??

you can't have the carbon filter in the cab if you're blowing air through it. you can blow through it if it's outside the box, or pull through it if it's inside

Sure if you can keep a nice negative pressure going. I think that a little smell is always going to leak through, but a carbon filter will scrub your exhaust and greatly reduce any odors you may have.
If I were you I'd hook up the carbon filter on one end of your light so you can vent the hot air it produces as well. Unless you're running an A/C in your cab things are going to get hot in there.

Yea I'm not gonna run an A/C, I dont think I will be able to hook my filter up to my light because I'm going with a cheap reflector and it doesnt have the port on it.

how cheap is cheap? Somehow I think that's one decision I think you're going to regret. Have you ever run a HPS light before? They'll turn a small cabinet into a sauna in about 5 minutes.

I'm running a 400 watt light in a room 2x3x5 with 190 cfm fan and it stays about 75 degree 6 inches off the bulb itself.
The fan I use is a inline 4 inch.

It's also gonna make a big difference where your intake and exhaust actually are in relation to the rest of the space.
Are you gonna exhaust into the attic or outside or anything? Intake could be better suited to the lower portion of the cab too where the air is going to be cooler in your house/room whatever.
I'm running a 171 CFM through a DIY scrubber in my 2X2X3.5 cab. Exhaust and intake recirculate in a 5X5 closet. My temps reach about 83 under the bulb
You have any pics or thread of your setup stoney?

I think I'm getting a 250 CFM fan, Says that it only costs like 9 cents a day to run 24/7. I'm thinking I'm also gonna get a cool tube.

cool tubes suck. well actually, they're awesome at keeping the temp down, but they blow ass for reflecting light. if you have space for a real reflector it will seriously be worth your investment. a 6" AC xtrasun reflector only cost me about $100

because it doesn't have a reflector. it's a cylindrical glass tube with basically a piece of tinfoil on one side

Myself I would have put the fan over the light and holes in the floor for air to get in. This way air goes past the plants giving them fresh air and removing humidity. Then the air goes past the light removing heat. The fan being below the light is actually going to pull hot air in a downward motion.

much. a normal reflector is specifically designed to evenly distribute the light over a larger area so that almost all 360 degrees of light being emitted by your bulb is reflected back onto your garden for maximum efficiency. with a cool tube you lose a ton of that light because it goes past the reflector on the sides, as well as the uneven coverage underneath it. just think about the difference in shape and you'll see what I mean

Fuck. Do you think I could cover it with foil ! The only reason I was thinking about it was because I can hook up ducting to it and its not too pricey.

search xtrasun reflectors and see what they look like, they're still cheap, and you can hook ducting to it (that's what the AC stands for, air cooled)

look at it this way; it will absolutely increase your yields by more than just 3.5 grams (which is $40 worth around here)
don't look at it as spending, just think of it as buying a sack that you can't smoke for awhile

It's not NECESSARY to have a reflector with duct flanges on it.
Listen to magash, having your outtake vent above the light and passive intake near the floor and that will do quite the adequate job to cool your space. And you don't have to spend 40 bucks more.
I would go w/ the reflector I linked in your other thread. My buddy has one and it's sick. It's bigger than it appears in the picture and it covers the area so evenly and perfectly. As long as you have the constant flow of cool air from the bottom and out the top it will take all of the heat from the light with it.

Just make sure you get the dimensions of a reflector before you buy it. Want to make sure it will fit in your cab once it gets to you

I still don't think you're quite comprehending the physics of how a carbon filter works. it has to be on one of the the ENDS of the ventilation line. if it's getting air pulled through it then it needs to be before the light. Air enters through the side of the filter and then out the top, so with it how it is you not only won't have any ventilation on your light (because air doesn't flow linearly through the filter without some major modifications), but your filter will be useless as well.

He could use that setup if he made his own DIY carbon filter I believe. you can make them a straight shot, instead of the circular variety where air enters through the sides like you said, but the downside to that method is you don't get nearly the amount of surface area of activated carbon to pull through. This would effectively be less efficient, unless you built one big flat horizontal plane to pull the air through.
I'm not 100% sure on that but I'm pretty sure I have seen it done. Personally I would have the CF either on top of the cab in a home made filter box, Or if you are getting a reflector with a glass shield and duct flanges (bling bling), I would set it up like Harryscrotum and Code Man, but I would still build my own filter, as they are NOT CHEAP. I think the least you can expect to pay for a very small CF would be ~$75... If I were you, I would make my own!
I hope this helps

Also you cause way more static pressure in the 'inline' concept.. Though I've always liked the idea.
I still think you should consider the actual space you'll be working with, and build your cab around that. Taking into consideration where your actual exhaust is going to go after it leaves your cab. unless it's just going to be in a large room or something...
