The Dream Final Update Before Choppin, Trich porn [3-15-10]

Okay well time to start a log for what has been dubbed 'the dream'.
This is a single bagseed that germinated sometime around 12-10-2009 genetics are one of three or four possibilities, all were 'chronic' and one was a nice purple but he doesn't know which of the 4 this is.
Soil is MG organic with perlite, bone meal, blood meal and dolomite lime added. It's on Zamzows Thrive fertilizer. There recommended dose is 2Tbsp / gal for house plants. we started it at half that, and over the last three waterings have raised that to 1.5Tbsp / 2liters. After its last watering it took off like a shot so that is where we are going to stay. The instructions say that trees and shrubs should get a ton more then there 'house plant' guidelines and I have to figure its going to need somewhere in between house plant and small bush doseage as it grows. The plan is to take it easy with this stuff and if it gives any trouble he will switch it to FF nutes or something thats specially made for cannabis.
It is now being housed in a custom stealth freezer box which I built after a half assed custom cabinet. The freezer is amazing and if anyone has questions about it I can answer them.
Lighting is provided by a suspended panel of CFL's. Currently there is 1x 65w 2700k, 2x 14w 6500k, plus one 60w incandescent grow light (this is here only for the heat). When it goes into flower he will remove the incandescent for a second 65w 2700k.
Ventilation is handled by a 100cfm 120mm PC fan that is spliced to an old cell phone charger so it can be plugged into the power strip as normal. There is an about 5" hole in the bottom of the freezer under the shelf for fresh air intake.
Now for the show!
All in all he is freaking stoked with the progress. at just over a month old the stalk is already twice as thick as his last plant at harvest
Yesterday we took 6 clones from her and using coda's system with the heat pad and perlite for humidity they never even drooped. Pic's are still at his place so i'll have to show them later.
He is going to veg her another week or two and kick in the flowering. he may add a screen if it looks like the canopy control will be needed. using the CFL's has been easy so far but he knows he can't have them way away and get anything out of them.
Update: 2/21/10 Going to start putting my updates up top here, not gonna move the old shit though so just deal with it. Since last week there has been little noticeable growth except that everywhere we cut off a popcorn nug it has put out 2 more, guess it's getting more light down there then I thought. I am up in the air about removing these and leaning towards not doing it. Now thats not to imply there has not been some nice changes.
First off the smell is really starting to go nuts just being in the room you know whats up if you know whats up, know what I mean? Also the bud's are looking heavier just not much taller. when you move the pot around you can tell they are getting weighty by the way they swing side to side. even the main cola which has a stem i could kill a man with looks flimsy when it rocks.
Secondly the clones are now repoted, well 3 of them even with the new space I don't have enough room, also if you have been following I have them here now cause my buddies garage is too cold and his closet is far too small. my wife is a bit less then ecstatic but we compromised. I just wont be having the dozens of people over for beer pong each week any more, cause well like most of us I value my freedom and some of my friends are well, sketchy.
Sorry I don't have more pics for you guys to drool on(hopefully?) but here is the new box.
I only have 4 23w 6500k CFL's in it now which is totally under powered but after I press submit I am going to Lowes to get MORE POWER!!!
Update 2/22: Well last night was shitty the guy who donated the bean that got this whole thing going came over to smoke and chill and we ended up spending the night in the ER while they checked his arm for a blood clot. Long story short he wanted some pics of how everything is going to show his friends and I went on a photo extravaganza today.
I also built the new light fixture for my seedling box. I went with a chrome 6 bulb vanity from Lowes and filled it with bulbs for 40 bucks, plus I picked up a 40' extension cord that I will be using the other 30 feet of to re-wire the freeeezer come time. All for 40 bucks, not the cheapest trip but under budget at least.
I will show you the pretty ones first but I have a question on the last few pics....
Now for the sad ones:
Those are the clones. Obviously deficient and I am pretty sure the cold has not helped them but they are never the less pulling through. My question is do you think I should give them anything food wise? I was thinking not because they are in the brand new Happy frog mix and will have a lot available soon. I also know the roots are growing insanely fast. I had to repot one because the bucket was too tall for the shelf and in about 18 hours it had reached out of its root ball about an inch everywhere. So to feed or not to feed?.
Update 2/25:
First I am training the clones higher from the soil. I have trouble watering momma and the final limb placement was not very even. Instead of pinning the limbs down to the dirt I am using hooks from the edge of my pot.
I am also training them in a line rather then a curl, I will have to turn the top at some point but I think they will be going mostly up by then. This way all the nodes will be evenly spaced and run parallel. That should fit better into the screen when they get under it.
My goal is to have about 5 inches from the top of the bucket to the bottom of the canopy. Then when they go in the freeeezer I am going to build some PC fans into a frame and sit it in that 5 inches. the fans would blow up through the canopy since this is going to have to keep cool in summer I am also going to revamp the ventilation but that's another week.
I am not going to do any trimming on these and the leaves I posted pics of last week are looking better, except the one that was necrotic, it's about to drop.
I am watering today with some ghetto PH'ed water because all 3 of the clones have developed the PH twist and are clawing pretty bad on the tops. When I checked the soil PH last night it came in at 7-7.5. I mixed up some vinegar and water and did a couple tests to see what the effect was. I settled on 2tsp to a gallon of distilled water. That brought my test sample from 7.2 to 6.8. I am planning to water half way wait a bit and check the soil in several spots. If it's changed much I will water with plain water for the rest. Also I am not putting in any food because they look to be getting better as expected. Well that and I already learned the lesson about adjusting PH and feeding at the same time, fuck that.
I will go snap some pics for yall a bit later maybe but nothing has really changed much. Momma's trics are getting much denser and the main cola is really swelling up. It gets the last watering with nutes today and we are thinking it is going to go longer then the projected March 18th date. It had some really wide shade leaves but the buds and sugar leaves are all sativa. The hairs have started to turn but the trichomes are still clear and skinny with very little if any head. I can't wait to see what this strain can do under the big ball in the sky, or at the very least a decent HPS.
Update 3-12: Well everything is going along very very well. It has been a while since my last post because I got a new video game that's just fucking amazing and has totally consumed me (Global Agenda if you are into games). Anyways my camera is still M.I.A. so unfortunately I have no new pictures. I will say that mom has seemingly stopped swelling and I am estimating 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 O'z. If I even come in near that I will be a happy camper but of the 3 who have seen it recently we all believe the largest cola is going to hit the scale dry at 8-9 grams.
The bud is absolutely amazing looking, trichomes are there but it's not as frosty as some of you folks' crops. Density is now far above what I expected after hearing so many say that flowering under CFL's made buds light and airy. Hmm what can I compare the density to for you guys...uhhh it's kind of like pinching a banana that is just starting to get spotted, you can pinch it but not much.
I had projected my harvest date to be March 18th and it was looking like it would go longer so I gave it one final feeding last week, now it looks like the 18'th may be long enough but I really need to get my camera back or go get a printers loop to do some inspection with. I don't want to harvest before every trich is white or nearly amber. I have lot's of time before I 'need' to chop it so no rush.
As for the clones progress uhhh holy fucking shit what can I say... They like the dirt?
These are from the 22'nd of Feb.
They don't even look like the same plants now and you can't see the pots from the top anymore. I tried to count the number of branches that would likely turn into good tops and gave up after 20 and breaking one trying to get into the inside to see. And that is just one of them. I already got a screen ready to go into the box so as soon as chop day arrives I am going to do a quick revamp on the freeezer and they will be ready to go. Probably veg them for a week in the screen then go ahead and flower them.
I am going to be doubling the amount of CFL for that run and I am also considering throwing in the 150HPS but I will need to re-make my light array to accommodate it and the only reason I was wanting to do that is density and well, that's not a problem.

Looks pretty much dialed in I would have to say. I like "your" style as it is similar to mine. I like the smaller grows. Not saying I don't love a good money making operation but I don't sell weed and only need enough to get me, my gf, and anyone I feel like sharing with high.
Did you top or tie that plant. I would flower now, as that thing is going to get out of control fast! That's exactly the size and bushiness I want when I go into flower this next run. I have been flipping too early and with your setup that is about the perfect time to do it, especially if you implement a scrog. I'd throw that down now and flip 4-5 days after that.

Inverted, it is heavily LST'ed. I don't know if its just beginers luck or the magic of LST but she has responded extremely well to it and now it almost looks like it has a Y at the very bottom because the lowest node's branch is so fat now. Actually it's not the lowest node we discovered when taking the clones that it shot up a branch underneath the dirt. It became the clone that's at 10 o'clock in the picture
Speaking of clones they are on day 5 and still nice and perky as you can see in the new pic above. I don't see any roots on them yet but haven't really looked in a couple days. He is trying not to disturb their hood at all to keep the humidity at 99%. I figure though at this point he can count all 6 as survivors.
I hear that there is a root tip visible in one of the drain holes so maybe next time I have the camera over there I can shoot my first root porn.
If anyone has any ideas about keeping it a bit warmer in the box I am all ears. It was getting down to the mid 50's at night so he put the hotter bulb in and a heater but I think it's to big and will end up scorching something if it gets cold enough to keep the heater going for a bit. I was thinking about maybe just a smaller heater but that will still limit the box to one plant.
What do you scrog guys like to use for your screens? If it's cheap he will put one over it but he's getting pretty good at tieing now and has lots of bailing wire on hand, hmm its a small enough area maybe just string some wire back and forth? maybe I should build it for him on a little frame so it can be adjusted for different grows.
Oh yeah and I am saving the best news for last. Tonight the lights go dark. After comparing pics from the 9th-15th he decided it was go time or he would need to trim it back

Yikes during its first night cycle he let the box get a little cold then a bit hot nothing to extreme but she is looking a bit tired and abused. heating has been adjusted now.
It also might be showing some slight nute burn as a precaution he flushed it with a gallon of distilled water. Since it was just watered most of the gallon ran through. Do you think that's enough of a flush I read some people saying 2-3 gallons of water per gallon of dirt. If that's the case he will need more water on hand.

Well it did get toasted a a good bit probablly 20-30% of the leaves are in bad shape but only two of them were bad enough that the plant is not repairing them (They went yellow then crispy then finally developed some black spots and were removed, both were near the base and not receiving much light)
I don't know if the flush did much to help it either it seemed to just take on an over watered droop and is just now getting perky again.
Clones on the other hand are healthy and green. All 6 still alive after a full week. As each one shows it's roots they will be put in cups and go into the other box i made for his closet to veg. He is going to keep 3 and give 3 away all of those should make for some nice 4/20 smoke if they grow as quick as momma.
New pics taken just a bit ago:
This is the main tip, still bigger then the others but growing about the same speed now:
Edit: BTW I found out, I think, why it got burned he told me he had checked the PH and it was up to 7.2ish so he balanced the water down to 6. after he checked again it was down in the mid-high 6's. My hypothesis is that the soil has some nutrients locked up in at and releasing them and giving it more pushed it over the edge. Sound logical? Any ways lesson learned, make small changes and only one at a time.

Wow space is really becoming precious momma has shown some nice vertical growth in the last 5 days and has recovered nicely from the nute burn. When the box is opened now there is no guessing about what it is now
The clones are all in dirt now and living happily in his closet. For some reason the little girls didn't like being inside the box though so they are just under some CFL's on a shelf until that problem can be remedied. (believe it was heat build-up due to lack of airflow) They are also looking distinctly light in color so I think the next time they are watered they should get a light dose of food.

Careful on adjusting your pH. A soil grow with a pH of 7.2 is generally nothing to worry about unless you are growing a particularly sensitive strain. Fertilizers can further acidify your soil, so if you've already added something to lower pH into the 6's... I'm just saying be careful and take it slow!

Yeah lesson learned. One reason he adjusted is because the PH has been climbing after it started getting nutes. That's going to be moot now that it will be getting a different food probably as I hear most nutes lower PH instead of raise.
On that note I see a lot of people recommend FF big bloom. Is that a pretty good one bottle solution? Its bout to start its second week of flowering and after one more plain watering would prolly be a good time to hit it with some heavy P and K. The stuff it vegged on is 4-1-3 not exactly a good source of P at all. Just want to make that decision soon since it's going to have to be ordered on-line. Closest thing this cow town has to a grow shop is small ranch supply stores. Great if you need new dickies and some H-poo in the same trip though!

Not much to update everything is going well. The clones are already packing the 2ltr bottles with roots and the 3 in cups are going to have to be put in bigger pots for sure soon.
We haven't noticed much of a stretch from mom yet but she's only on flowering day 14 and I don't know when to expect it really. That said there has been some serious growth just not vertically. All of the 11 growth tips have plump little buds springing out from every node. What would be the cola tip is almost even with the other 7 large tips except that its flowers are noticeably thicker/denser. That leaves 3 tips that have just really started getting any size recently. they were underneath the large fan leaves in the middle of the pot, those are burned and gone now so the light is getting to these We did not do ANY trimming except for dead leaves but after seeing these 3 tips come out of seemingly no where in the future I think we could of gotten even more tips had we cleared certain shade leaves away.
I got some flowering nutes from another guy but I am hesitating to let him use them since all I know about this stuff is it's green and it's 5-15-10 I don't even have a name to lookup for instructions. Since momma is doing fine without I feel it an unnecessary risk. Down the road here soon he should be buying something cannabis specific for flowering any ways.

Definitely not, Big Bloom should really be treated like a supplement. Unless you previously amended your soil with solid fertilizers, you will need something more to give the plant the macro nutes it needs.

Ahh okay the soil is pretty weak we mixed in a few cups of basic amendments into a 30lb bag of MG. Just some bone and blood meal, about 25% perlite and he added a little sand to what the clones are in i think because he felt it wasn't draining as much as it should. All in all it's still not as potent as FFOF or the like would be I think. If you have a set you like to use in soil I am all ears.
Here is some new pics I snapped for todays update: The first top down shot is my new favorite picture. I can only imagine how much more beautiful it would be had it not been burned.

Hey nothing to new to show off really but I have a question if someone wouldn't mind pondering it for me.
See these nice shade leaves?
Now that the canopy has filled in they are getting about no light. they are all hanging down (as you can see) around the outside of the pot and from the other pics above you can see the canopy is pretty full. It is a bit droopy in those pics because its watering day but even after watering these leaves don't pick up.
I wouldn't think of cutting these but in the last few visits I have noticed them getting worse and worse. my hypothesis is the plant is cutting them off slowly and is pulling mobile nutes and letting them die.
So do we save the plant the trouble and remove them or just let nature do its thing?
And here is a side-by-side of the main tip 2-5-10 1-20-10

Not everyone agrees, but with any plant I grow whether its the tiny potted sage on my kitchen sill or the four foot tall outdoor tomato, I almost always end up removing dead and dying leaves, including leaves that just aren't getting enough light. On the same token, there's nothing wrong with letting nature drop the leaves on its own.

Cool well after it got dried out when we got trashed the other day instead of watering it has picked up those lower leaves again. It is kinda odd but no complaints glad we didn't act.
We were observing that this plant has tons more leaves then his last and it was every bit of 5ft with the pot. So we figure if some leaves came off to promote lower node growth or if they simply were not getting light the plant would still be okay.
On that note of the 6 clones we are trying a few different things and I will put up some pics tomorrow. three of them have been LST'ed around the rim of their 2lt. bottles. of those 1 has all the shade leaves that fall to the inside of the circle removed to allow full light access to all the nodes. one is untouched except the training and the third is being trained with all the shade leaves pulled away instead of removed. Since he's only got room for a few at best we are playing around a bit I will keep yall posted.
Momma is looking nice i will get new pics of her too tomorrow

Things are getting exciting now! Every top has a little frosting of baby trichs and the smell is divine. I have taken to giving it a little pinch and sniff for stress relief. Definitely going to be crowded in there with 2 plants

Not much happening this week but I will fill you in on the haps before work real quick.
The clones are a little better but getting yellow on lower leaves, when it's time to water them again I think some food will be in order.
After looking around on the subject of early trimming we decided to go ahead do some light clean up. We took out some lower leaves where they were badly burned or justto packed to get light. We have been keeping track of each cola tip and noticed most all the growth was going on in the lower 'popcorn' nugs. a few of these are comming up to fill in the center area and we left them but the ones that were just to low to even try and stretch we removed. Hopefully that will refocus it's growth. Initially I had thought just to leave all the popcorn but this plant is growing 13 pretty good colas already, I figure now that's gotta take a lot of energy.
I will throw up some pics later on along with a preliminary smoke report I guess, not really looking forward to smoking these little guys though I think it will be less than satisfying.

Well no pic's cause I left my camera but we rolled about a 1g joint. Smoked a J so we could evaluate the resin content and get the best scence of taste (too lazy too keep glass clean).
It started up really harsh as expected from a premature quickly dried smoke but after a few puffs it really mellowed out and a lot of the green/stem taste subsided and a very strong medicine sort of taste came in none of the 3 of us could describe it though. It wasn't the harsh non flushed chemical taste some of my friends think is 'medical bud'(fucktards think anything a black guy sells you is purple too). Overall the smoke was on par with schwag or mexican compress I would say. When finished the roach was quite resinated which I didn't expect. Now the high though that was something else. We finished it at about 9:30am and totally lost the next 2 hours just sitting in his room chatting in the circle. At one point I realized my neck felt a bit numb and then found out my whole head felt like it had been dipped in lidocane. Every bit of the stone was in our foreheads we agreed. As my understanding of THC other cannabiniods is that the younger the plant the more cerebral the high so this matches. What I am excited about now is when she is fully ready and some of that cerebral mind fuck I experienced goes to my legs. What can I say I like couch locking fuck you right in the ass kind of bud

I can't believe that got you high, you must have been hard up for some smoke
The plants are looking good, just be patient with the harvest that has 4~ weeks left.
