Curing cracker dry buds
    #342475 - 01/07/10 05:01 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Just got back from out of town and the buds I hung up are cracker dry, as in they crumble when you touch them. Should I put a drop or two of water in the jar that I cure them in?

Put some lemon or orange peels in the jars with them possibly. I'm not sure how else I would go about that.

i would suggest using a moistened sponge rather then some fruit peels.  Fruit peels mold and impart possible unwanted flavor in your buds.  Here's what i would do, take your canning jar and glue a piece of dry sponge to the lid.  Soak the sponge and then press out a bunch of water so it's not sopping wet.  Then just seal the jar and let it sit.

DO NOT FORGET TO OPEN THE JARS!  Otherwise you'll wake up one day to some nice mold all over your buds.  Just use the sponge until your buds pick up some moisture and then remove it.

Alight I will do this and "burp" it daily to make sure things don't get moldy. Thanks for the advice

I used a small cigar humidor, you know, one of those little wooden boxes that come w/ cigars sometimes?

All I had to do was take a moist towel, wipe down the surface inside (wood) and pop the buds in.  5 hours later all the buds were back to squishy instead of powder.

Or just throw a small moist ball of paper towel in there, same difference.

You can go about curing once they have some moisture back in them.

If you don't have something like that just use a mason jar.

I wouldn't say you have to glue anything to the lid... Just make sure the buds aren't in direct contact with the sponge/towel

Or the fruit peel method will work, but it only takes a couple hours to regain moisture. Fruit peels, a leaf of lettuce, or any of the methods stated above will work.

I do this exact same thing for both cheap dealer bud and my rolling tobacco when it gets dry, works WONDERS!

A fresh leaf is another quick and easy thing to put in the jars for a while and not affect smell.

yah, pretty much introducing any type of moist material to a closed environment will help re-moisten dried material.

Whatever method is used just make sure the jar gets some air at some point unless you like smoking mold.

I superglued a 1.5cm x 1.5cm piece of new sponge to the top of a mason jar, wet it, then squeezed out whatever water I could. Buds seem a bit too moist so I'm gonna let it dry out for a few hours with the top open

there ya go bud.  Let em dry for a bit, then use a lid that doesn't have a sponge.  Once the buds get some moisture they'll redistribute it in the jar

I have an odd, somewhat unrelated question. I decided to save the mother plant that I harvested from and put her back in veg. I get home after 2 weeks of vacation and he leaves of the new growth aren't serrated. WTF is that about? I tried searching it but came up with nothing.

I'm kinda hoping it mutated and people won't be able to recognize the plant (as well, at least).

Pics?  That's an odd mutation.  Most likely stress related from the revert back to veg.

Humidipaks kick ASS.

Also, the moistened towel is an old favorite.
