Topping in the 1st Week of 12/12

What's your guys opinion on this. I have (8) 8-12" Chrystal plants, 1 Haze female, and I vegged them for 25-30 days, which is 10 days longer than planned, and those 10 days made A LOT of difference in the size of the plants. They became much bushier than I'd like (going for single tall cola's) so I had to build a new box. Now I really think the Haze is going to blow past the Chrystal in the flowering stretch.
I'm on day 5 of 12/12 and really want to keep these plants low now, as they are already up to a foot tall with 7-10 nodes. Great internodal spacing with CFL's if I may say so myself. I have tried every type of LST except ScrOG, which is an option because I built a screen for the other box. Now my question is, would it be too stressful on the plant to top/FIM them at this point? I could tie them down I guess but I'd prefer NOT to do that type of training as the pots are all touching each other, and there isn't much horizontal room for them to lay down.
I've always topped before flowering, as w/ outdoors they veg for 2+ months and there is plenty of time for a full recovery before entering the flowering cycle.
What do you guys think I should do. I DO have the space to let them grow wild, but I think using some sort of training will boost the yield I pull at harvest. What are your thoughts? I really need to squeeze every possible gram out of this 2x2x3.5' setup.
BTW I have 200w of 2,700k-3,000k spectrum Compact Fluorescent bulbs on them now, and will be adding a 250w HPS within 10 days. Growing in soil in 1 gal. containers.

Don't
Do it a few weeks before you turn the lights back. Lets the plants get those new branches started and set up some sites for the buds to grow. Top them and your asking the plant to flower and grow these branches at the same time. The branches will be short and stunted (unless it's some sativa and you just said chrystal so it's not).

Ok, good. That's what I thought.
They are growing so short and lush that i'm getting concerned lol!
There is maybe 1/2" between each node! The leaves are literally stacked on top of each other, and the branches are already big enough to take cuttings. Good things will come of these Chrystal... I know it. They stink so damn much like fuel already and they don't have any flowers. Might have to build a DIY carbon scrubber!
I think they will be just fine with out any training. They aren't showing the flowering stretch at all, yet the Haze is already twice as tall as the others...
They will probably have about 6 decent branches and 1 big cola per plant. I am estimating 20 grams per plant, with the largest 2 yielding around 30. I am pretty sure I have 7 females. In your experience did the males usually show a week before the females too? That seems to be the common trend. The males were also slightly taller when showing preflowers.
If the tops get too tall, which I don't think they will, i'll just tie them over, exposing the lower branches to more intense light.

Can someone please help my first plant. It has a very similar problem.
As you can see my avatar, this photo was taken of it 2 weeks ago when the top cola was 65cm tall. The two main branches to the left and right (in the pic) are now 80cm tall and now there's 4 or 5 of them around the plant, all 80cm
That's alot of growth when it's been flowering for 4-5 weeks. The buds are still lacking thickness but their getting bigger esopecially on middle cola.
However, I don't know if I should top those outer, newer, bigger branches, because it's growing outdoors and is either Hybrid or Sativa dom. I guess the flowering is going to take longer than I thought.

No don't cut them at all, stretching is normal during the first half of flowering, then the second half they halt and focus on bud production and that's when the swelling and fattening of nugs occurs.
That plant is definitely nearly pure sativa, and will take much longer than the average hybrid. I'd say you are looking at 10-12 weeks of flowering...
If you have a problem with height, which you shouldn't if you are outdoors, just slowly bring the branches down by tying. But at this point I'd say just leave her, because the vertical growth should cease for you in the next week or two.

Thanks for that advice Inverted. Yes this plant is definately stretching vertically from numerous outer branches.
I will leave it alone, be more patient.
