As you can probably see this is my first time growing.
Seeds are planted but have not yet sprouted.

There are only two seeds (germinated of course) in the container.
Shouldn't they be fine for a while?
This is only to get the plant going.
It will then be transferred to a friends house when its too big for the container.
I'll get more lights up asap =]

Use CFL's, if thats an incandescent you are putting out wayyyy more heat than light.. which = NO GOOD!
CFL's can veg MJ great! for sprouting one 26watt cfl will work.. but once they get much over a few inches you will be adding lights every week.. Also use the 4000k or higher cfls for veg.. they work great!
Flowering you better be getting a HPS, or a shit ton of CFL's..

I have two cfl's, there are no incandescent lights. the two cfl's are 13watts each.
What do you recommend for hps lighting?

So I checked and I do have a 500w hps,
Would this be adequate?

Welcome to the growery!
I persuade you to do some reading on the topics your asking about. We have a good amount of knowledge from other growers that will help you on you journey. But yes a 500 watt hps should be more then adequate!

Yes that 500 HPS could handle a few more plants as well. Also, using tinfoil for reflecting...you are better using flat white or mylar from my experience and understanding, tinfoil or aluminum foil can actually focus the light and burn holes through leaves over time.
Research here of course as there is a wealth of knowledge. Also, what soil mix are you using? My seedling project suffered because of bad soil mixture for starting...actually ended up with some N Def burning happening as I was totally whacked and used 100% sphaghum peat...needed that perlite among other things.

Where can I get the reflecting agents you spoke of?
Its a miracle grow sort of potting mix.
It has fertilizer built in.
Also, what is the recommended temperature for the terrarium?

76-78 degree's is optimal.
I'd look into better soil when you transplant too my man, a soil "like miracle gro" is bound to lead to some problems.
Just google mylar and you'll find places to order it. However, a coating of flat white paint is the next best option if you can't afford the mylar.

Ya nothing but trouble long term with that Miracle grow. I would agree with many of the claims that they mess with the plants because of their time released Nutes...just not controllable at all. Others claim PH issues etc. The recipes in the soil section are quite good from my experience. Things worked way better once I switched and designed a soil based on information here. And yes the very first grow I ever did...ran out and bought all the wrong shit...miracle grow...orchid food, rose food etc...lol.
Funny thing...the more I research and learn...the better my plants grow...go figure
You could go flat white paint OR even I found Mylar like material sold at Dollar stores. It simply is the cut and crinkle of tin foil that focus the light....Mylar tends to not crinkle and if hung right, will slightly move because of fans etc so it cannot laser beam at all.

If thats a CFL you are using you can move it closer. A good reference is if you can feel heat on your hand when you are touching your seedling, then it is to close.

I would upgrade those to two 26 watt cfls after you get 2 sets of leaves.
Also put them really close to the plant / dirt it won't burn them unless it touches them do not allow this to happen!

They arent really hot. But hot enough to hurt the leaves probably.
