well, if you have a radio shack nearby, they carry mini microscopes for pretty cheap.
This would be easier if you could tell us at least a guesstimate of when the plants went outside, were they vegged inside at all, etc.

You can go by the color of the hairs as well. If over 50% of the hairs have changed color, you can harvest.
NOTE: This is not the best method, I am well aware. It has however, worked in the past.

They're probably getting VERY close to being harvest-ready if they aren't by now.
Depends on the strain. Do you have any pictures?

oh yah, you're ready then. When the leaves start yellowing off like that the plant is using up it's remaining nitrogen. Sure sign your girls are ready for a haircut.

I have some girls with alot of yellowing leaves, but only some trichomes are cloudy. Are they still ready for harvest? I was thinking about letting them go for about 9 days longer, they are currently flushing.

If you have the microscope, use that. That's the best method to determine when you should harvest as you essentially get to pick the high you desire. Yellowing of leaves is an indication your girls are close to harvest, if you're in the position, like blazinmike is, of not having any equipment (and a cloudy time line of the flowering period) you could use it as a way to know you're getting ready to harvest.

Yeah I have a microscope, equipment, and timelines arent a factor.I harvested the last crop after 9weeks of flowering, but they could have went longer. So with this crop I'm paying close attention to trichome color so I can figure out how long my unknown strain actually takes. On the harvest due in about 5 weeks or so, I should know exactly when to start flushing. I know I lost tons of weight on my last rip, due to early flushing and harvesting.

Harvest different parts of the plant over like two weeks so that you can compare the product through the different flowering times
then you will know what you want to do with your next batch of plants in 4 weeks, assuming they are the same strain ?

especially if you're growing something that leans more to the sativa side.

I second that, find smaller buds and chop them at different times and see for yourself what time is good to harvest to produce the high you want.

Thanks for the advice. And right now they all are the same strain. I'm waiting on some Satori seedlings to mature

this is how you REALLY know when to harvest, the color of hairs can be irrelevant, its about the trichs, which the healthy naked eye can see without a microscope or 20x mag.
-------------------- "and take me disappearing, through the smoke rings of my mind,
down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
the haunted frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
far from the twisted reach, of crazy sorrow.
yes the dance, beneath the diamond sky, with one hand waving free,
silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
with all memory and fate, driven deep beneath the waves,
let me forget about today, until tomorrow."~bob dylan

well, if you had actually read the post you would realize that:
a.) this has already been said b.) the OP does not have access to a microscope.

8 weeks is usually cool. I could tell you the real trick. But you know the top gun rule. probably pushing 9-10 wouldn't kill you. Just stop and harvest if you find mold+ REMOVE ANY MOLD !!!!! IF PRESENT! or at least don't expect harbor side to buy it.
