Harvest Dilemma

I know there are many questions about exactly when to harvest. The buds have started to recede and dense up. Some of the trichomes are amber. I'm at about 8 weeks so i know its just a matter of days. I'm just not sure of the exact time to harvest. I'm trying to be patient so i can get the best quality possible(of course). I'll try to post pics by tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for any help.

it's up to you man. everyone stresses about when to harvest, but it'll be good weed no matter what you do. I usually just wait until all the hairs are red (or at least 80-90%) and about 30-50% amber trichome heads.

yeah get a magnifying glass and look at the trichomes (crystals) and harvest when they turn from clear = to cloudy/amber. but its all your preference

Everything ive read says not to harvest until the trichomes are at least milky white and not clear. i have a 30x36 Jewelers loupe. I can see the hairs and they are definitely turning color. Im having some trouble seeing the trichomes though. anyone have a good technique for looking at them? Everytime i try to i cant seem to keep my hand steady enough. I just ordered a 45x magnifier microscope with light but i dont know if it will be here in time. I think this might be easier then the jewelers loupe for me to see them.

If you can do this, this is how I look at my trichomes. Get a small table (like a coffee table), one that's not too high off the ground. Put your plant on the table, grab a chair and sit in front of the plant and examine the buds. I personally like grabbing the bud so that its stem rests between my index and middle fingers with the bud running up the palm and towards my arm (obviously done with your palm facing upwards). By keeping the arm mostly relaxed with a small bit of tension you'll reduce the shakes. Also, by bending the stems a bit you can use the plants resistance to the bend to give you a bit of more support. Finally, if you have a friend you can trust, i've found that using a bright, LED, flashlight to provide additional light makes it a hell of a lot easier to see the trichs. Otherwise you can hold the flashlight in your mouth if you want. Checking the crystals underneath an HPS can be a major pain especially if the area you're checking isn't receiving too much light.
