the more i realize the big bang and all that noise about the universe expanding/contracting and the infinitely dense black hole at the middle of the universe is all complete BULLSHIT.
how the fuck do people believe that crap?

But really, the theories are whack. I just finished an astrophysics summer course. Shame on science for believing this shit.

You should author a better theory or even discredit the leading theory and win a Nobel prize!

Imagine if everyone had that kind of attitude we'd still be stuck in the middle ages. Researching and discovering things is just so damned fun and interesting mankind will never give up.
Since you just took a course in astrophysics how about you put forth some information and tell us a little about what you learned that made you believe the leading astrophysicists and cosmologists of our age are all wrong?
No true scientist really thinks he knows anything like this for complete certain and that's why we call their ideas on subjects like the creation of the universe "theories." Of course nobody will ever really know but that doesn't stop us from coming up with a scenario that makes the best possible logical sense given all available information.
But really, what makes the Big Bang theory such crap? It's always made pretty good sense to me but I'm always interested in learning something new.

It's not even that I have some great evidence against it... in fact, all throughout the course everything seemed to make sense and fall together seamlessly. By the end of the class, I really thought I had some understanding about what was being taught.
But the problem is, I took everything I learned in class as FACT, which was a mistake. It's all up in the air. Looking back on the concepts on a macroscopic level made me realize that I had buried my head so far into the textbook I forgot to use common sense.
Simple example, the evidence for the universe expanding is redshift... hubble found that the redshift of distant galaxies increased the farther off they were. This shows that the universe is expanding.
This makes sense when you hear it in lecture, but REALLY think about it. Can the universe expand? It doesn't have edges. It doesn't have 3 dimensional shape. It can't move or change or mold because (by definition) it's everything that exists anywhere. But alas, it would help explain the data, and we don't have any better explanation, so let's all believe it anyways!
But the fun doesn't end there. Deluding ourselves into thinking we live in an expanding universe gives us room to come up with all sorts of other bullshit theories! If the universe is expanding, then "everything" must have been closer together in the past. Mayyybe it was an infinitesimally dense point in space containing alllll the universe's energy that exploded and the universe has been expanding ever since!
It's ridiculous! It's a bunch of hoo ha! We scientists laugh at creationists for believing in intelligent design and taking the first eleven chapters of the Bible to be real history, but we believe that the entire contents of the universe was once a little dot in the middle of nothingness.
I guess I'm just frustrated with myself for not questioning what I was being taught. I feel a fool and just wanted to rant, I'd like to hear some other people's thoughts on the matter though, maybe change my way of thinking once again.

Yeah the universe expanding thing is pretty weird but scientists observed and still do observe it happening so they had to attempt come up with some way to explain it. Not many people agree on why it happens but most accept that it does.
I read a few articles a while back talking about a new phenomenon scientists had discovered and christened "Dark Flow" in the spirit of Dark Matter and Dark Energy.
Apparently what they discovered suggested that there is a force outside of our universe that is pulling it outward rather than actually expanding itself. Of course, by entertaining this concept you would have to give up the idea of a universe and so this appears to be possible evidence of multiverses. Link.
I like multiverses
How about quantum physics? Any fellow amateur enthusiasts in the house?
