Fractal Geometry

That is something called the mandelbrot set. or m set for short. This is basically the concept of self-similarity. I think that's obvious in the mset pic above. There's just soo much to say about fractals I don't know where to start. I am only starting to get into this stuff. There are some books i need to get. I was hoping that someone here could provide some insight into fractals or anything related to it. I will provide my comments later on unless theres no discussion.

I actually was watching a program about fractals a few days ago, I was hardly listening though, seemed a bit interesting though. It actually had that same picture.

Any show you see about fractals will include the mset. I saw it on PBS a week or two ago, maybe that's what you saw. Well when i was watching it I got my mind blown. I made several connections that reaffirmed a belief i have. I'll talk about that later.
That's the video i was looking for.

Is a 16 year old guy having sex w/a 16 year old girl a pedophile?
If not, then how is a 30 year old considered a pedophile for doing the same thing?
I think y'all need to look up the definition for pedophile.

Wow, i thought I did a search for fractals before I posted this. Oh well. I watched that documentary this weekend. I really liked the pink floyd type music that played, but i didn't need like 5 of those four minute segments of the zoomed picture. That PBS documentary was better than the color of infinity, imo. I'll talk about the connections I made after work.

Really? I actually enjoyed The Colors of Infinity more than the PBS documentary. Admittedly though, I was drunk and my girlfriend was really distracting me when I stayed up and watched it the night it premiered.

Yeah, i will have to watch them both again soon. I also really want to read some of those books they talk about in the shows.

"We know that we are all one. We are unimaginably complex carbon based life forms that have evolved all the way from single cell organisms over billions of years. I don't consider that to be debatable. I think that at the heart of my beliefs is the concept of the infinite. I will never believe anyone who tells me they understand this concept. Without going into too much detail the idea is this - everything is infinite. Our current technology only lets us see an unbelievably small fraction of what exists. We (or at least the media) tends to focus on outer space as being the most wondrous aspect of reality. Why is this? Probably because it's something we see every night as we look up at the stars. What if we looked down into ourselves, into the atoms of ourselves and see the same wondrous sights - the infinite. I think that infinity goes both ways - large and small. We only perceive things that are relative to our own size. It's hard to imagine an entire universe inside of a single atom, especially since none of us really know how small an atom is. This also has to do with time. Time is a function of size. Obviously for the people that exist inside the Earth of the universe inside of an atom their time would flow the same to them as it does for us. But the more and more I learn about string theory and M theory this is what I have come to believe. The goal of physics is to unveil a unifying theory of everything (as i understand it). One theory that tells us everything about existence.
OK, so imagine that every atom in the Universe contains an infinite number of universes within itself, with an infinite number of earths that have all unfolded in different ways. That would imply that there are an infinite number of parallel dimensions that exist all around us. So, imagine a world were dinosaurs and people have learned to coexist. Or a world where the person you hate most is President and ruler of the entire unified Earth. Or even a reality where humans have discovered how to travel through time. I think that this kind of world view really frees up the mind to think creatively. I will admit that it's kind of out there stuff and I am far from firm in this belief as i myself have developed nothing to back any of this up. I'm open to all criticism and ideas to further this understanding. Let's engage."
That was a rant I went on a while back on another site. That was my belief then and now. The mandelbrot set shows that this is true, somewhat. Each level of the set is a different dimension (maybe there's a better word). It's all dependent upon the size of the observer. Watch those videos with that kind of a reality in mind.

Might do a bit of philosophising on this threat tomorrow, when I'm not as fucked, and Euronews(a sign I'm up too late) is on.

Trying to stick on the topic of fractals.
In terms of what the hell's going on. Universes inside universes etc, which is what I believe the whole idea of fractals is. Simplifying complex things down to single equations. For instance I heard that some team(I guess of mathematicians) had simplified the coastline of England down to a single equation. Which I don't quite get. And that some other team were going to try simplify the human brain down to an equation, which to me makes more sense, since a human sprouts from one cell. If this will all lead somewhere or not I'm not sure. Either it will mean everything or it won't mean anything any time soon.
Trying not to digress from the topic of fractals, which is tempting for me as I could go on about theories of existance all day I'll tie up my view on them with this. When you look at the laws of physics you can imagine that if you were to shrink down to the size that atoms were planets what would happen? For one thing there'd be no oxygen because oxygen atoms would be the size of planets. We know this. But we also know that when you're working with physics at this miniscule size that the regular laws don't apply, so we have to work with quantum mechanics, which at the moment is all closest estimates , just think of Heisenburg's uncertainty principal. That's basically why quantum mechanics is all estimates. So basically we don't know what happens down at small scale, we know about as much about the subatomic scale as we do about deep space. I don't really know where I'm going with this, it's kind of a philosophical ramble. Fractals, they may speed things up in reaching answers about the true origins of things, they may help us reach a grand unified theory. If they truely work. If they can be just thrown into equations and run and work to find information out through some basic principals and an equation. Or they may be a waste of time. Something intersting that happens with maths and the world around us. That like most Maths and Science, is at the moment very rough and nowhere near the real answer that all scientists strive for.
Ok, sorry for this reply in advance.

I guess I wasn't appologising for the ideas. Just my clarity of explaning them. I was pretty drunk last night.
