All right. So I got some pots, some soil, some nutes, a 1000watt hps, and a garage (and soon some clones, hopefully by this weekend!)
Let's set this shit up! Help me out!
Here's the space I got to work with:
Light source:
Thinking of setting the pots up in this corner:
Soil:
Nutes:
Still a lot to do.
Main issue (obviously) is ventilation. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. Thinking about buying some fans and putting an intake in that little hole in the wall near the ground and maybe expelling all the air out the window somehow. Any ideas?
Also I need to seal off all the nooks and crannies for light leak. And probably paint the walls or at least cover them with something that'll reflect light.
I'll keep posting progress of the setup. Planning to start the grow next week once I get the clones.

Do you frequently use this garage? Is it a high activity area? Any plans to create a grow area inside of the garage? Like actually building a small 8x8 or 10x10 area with 2x4's and shit? That's probably something you can look into. It would provide you with a bit of discretion. If you could camouflage it that would be even better. Are you worried about security? Personally I would prefer a small separate grow area like I just mentioned as it would block out light and possible contaminations and other shit you don't want around your grow area. The open walls in your garage would be a bit of a concern for me. Good luck man!! You've certainly got the potential for an amazing log there!

I never use the garage... no one even goes in there. Security isn't too big of a problem... I know the neighbors and they're cool. I don't think anyone will be able to recognize it. Also with a medical card I'm allowed a 10ft by 10ft grow space, so I don't have to worry about cops really (other than being hassled, which is why I'm being discrete).
I wasn't really planning on building anything... funds are sort of low at the moment, so I was thinking of just sectioning off a corner with a curtain and isolating it to be grow space, keeping it as clean as possible. I guess it wouldn't hurt to build a little something though. I'll post back if I have any ideas. Thanks

yeah, you can use black/white polyfilm to section the area off. If I were you I would build up enough $$$ to get the wood and build a grow room the right way. Once it's done you can use and reuse it. Since you're legal it should all be a relatively stress free endeavor. That's what I would do. Then you could build a decent mount for your exhaust fan. Plus if you build it big enough you could section off different areas and have a mother/clones area, vegging area and flower area, or something like that. Then you could do perpetual harvests. That's my ideal situation though. I bet you were on cloud nine when they gave you that card!

I like that reflector you have there. Are those reflectors only for a certain wattage, like a ballast is? I can't remember. I have one just like yours but use it for my 400w. IDK that might be a ridiculous question.

I think the reflector will work for any light that will fit in it
I'll try to pick up some b/w polyfilm tomorrow. And maybe some wood... we'll see

Santa Cruz has mild weather throughout the year, enjoying a Mediterranean climate characterized by cool, wet winters and warm, mostly dry summers. Due to its proximity to Monterey Bay, fog and low overcast is a common feature during the night and morning hours, especially in the summer.
January is the coolest month with an average maximum of 59.8 °F (15.4 °C) and an average minimum of 39.3 °F (4.1 °C). September is the warmest month with an average maximum of 75.7 °F (24.3 °C) and an average minimum of 51.0 °F (10.6 °C). There are an average of only 5.7 days with highs of 90°F (32°C) or higher and an average of 12.7 days with lows of 32°F (0°C) or lower. The highest temperature on record was 107 °F (42 °C) on September 14, 1971. The lowest temperature on record was 19 °F (−7 °C) on December 23, 1990.
Planning on growing year round eventually. Probably just gonna get 1 grow finished, then set up everything for constant harvest like furrowedbrow suggested (with an area for veg, flowering, etc). For now I'm just concerned with getting these plants big and healthy!

Is that hole under the widow 4 in.? Looks like it was for a dryer.
I understand you wanting to get you grow up and growing. I'm maybe a week from starting a new one.Useing 4 ft. T5's(8 blubs, 432 watts).

A Stanly Utility fan is equal to a 4 inch inline fan(420cfm,hope I'm not to stoned)but a 1/3 of the cost. $50.00
I use one to vent into a sewer pipe and will be installing one after the remodel to bring in freash air.
Just throwing out an idea while your in the design stage.

Got some clones from the club today. Also bought some mylar.
I'm still debating how I want to set the grow area up though. It's too spread out as it is... I need to close the area off somehow. I'm thinking divide the garage with a fat tarp or something...

You know, my dad has a garage that he stores his drag car in. He has this thick plastic that is attached to a roller type thing that enables him to set up and lift the divider really easily. I think it's just something he rigged up rather than bought. It works nice for him. I would presume it would work in your situation too.

currently working on sealing the area off with a ceiling and setting up the fans. It doesn't really get cold enough to really need 2 fans bringing air in AND out. Right now I just have one of the stanley blowers on a shelf blowing out the hole in the top of the window.
I'll post updated pics when I take em

OK, so due to recent changes in living situation, etc (wont go into the details here) I had to move my little troublemaker babies over to the hps grow. So now I have a total of 5 clones from oaksterdam, 11 clones from a friend in socal, and 3 troublemaker babies growing under my 1000 watt hps, along with 3 troublemaker and 3 troublemaker x white widow growing under my shitty fluorescent set up.
That being said, here are some pics:
The grow room:
Inside:
The top 3 are the troublemaker, the 5 big ones are the oaksterdam clones, and the rest are clones obtained from a friend of mine.
Ventilation:
Yes, KK those ARE the fans you recommended. Working GREAT too. On top I have the tubing going directly from the light to the window, with the fan blowing the hot air out. On bottom I have tubing bringing the air in and circulating the room. Keeping the temp at a pretty constant 78-80 degrees.
The girlssss :
I've begun tying down some of the plants to make em grow bushier. Forget what this is called, but it's been helping a lot!
The sick'ns:
These babies have had it pretty rough so far. Nitro deficiency is causing the leaves to yellow and they have been constantly moved and battered around since they sprouted. I still have high hopes for them, though!
Anyways, I'll keep you guys posted.
