175 Watt MH for free... Use it?

My gf has had this 175 watt Metal Halide light in her basement for a couple years. Right now Im only using slightly over 50 Watts and the sun in the day. I was thinking about force flowering my 28 day old plant. I can either leave it outside in the sun from 8-8 or I can use the MH and grow it inside, immediately into flowering. I know MH isn't the best spectrum for flowering but I will keep the CFL's on it's lower branches. Is 225 Watts enough to get a decent yield off of one 15" tall plant @ the start of 12/12? (I'd think 1.5-2 Oz's) It's been topped a week ago, notice the active branching.

that light would be great for vegging it inside, and the hps equivalent would be much better for flowering. You can buy a conversion blub, which is a hps bulb that will work in your mh light. Like here http://www.businesslights.com/eye-150w-hps-conversion-lamp-p-150.html But that is fairly expensive when you can buy a 100w hps light at home dept for a few bucks more like this one. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100626324 Hope this helps some.

Thanks a lot for the info, I didn't know you could get a conversion bulb for that type of grow light but I trust your judgement. I'd rather just pay the $50 and just get the bulb, since the ballast and light already work fine, i'll just throw that bulb in there when I flower...

But if you decide to spend the $70, you have a 175w mh for vegging indoors and a 100w hps for flowering, so that both can be happening at the same time. Just a thought. It was really just a making the most out of your dollar, 50+shipping for a bulb, or $70 for a whole new light with a bulb that you can go down the street and pick up, but either will work, just one works out better for your vegging plants.

Trust me dude I would love to do what you are telling me... But right now I'm so broke that I'm living with my parents and sucking off their teet right now. I don't have a job ATM so costs are going to have to stay right around 20 bucks at the most.
I picked up the HydroFarm 175 tonight and it looks brand new, just needs a new bulb because the other one is burnt out I'm just going to use the sun during the day and that light during the night. I'm just using it to assist in my vegetation for a few weeks before I use the sun for the 12 hours of light its going to receive - and that baby's got the best spectrum of ALL lights for flowering!
I also changed my current lights from (1) 30w, (1) 20w CFL's to (1) 30w + (1) 40w + (1) 80w Tube Flouro so now I'm back up to 150 watts of light without an HPS or MH, and I can position them around my plant to hit all of the branches instead of just the main top/s. Now if I add in that 175 MH then I'll be at 325 and that's really not too bad for one 15" tall plant! The only thing is...I'm almost done vegging so Im pretty sure I don't even need to use the MH, just the Flouro's for 2 more weeks then I'm gonna force flower it with the sun and cover it for 12 hours at night. I'm only looking for 2 Oz's from it so I think i'll have no problem w/ that, I could flower it now and get close.
