Planting/Topping/Questions

I've got a seed that's been germinating for a few weeks. I used one of the jiffy trays. It is about 3-4 inches tall now. I just bought a flower pot at walmart. Is it time for me to transplant it into the pot? What kind of mixture should I use? I have sphagnum peat moss, vermiculite and a little perlite. Also, I have heard about topping them. The first two jagged/pointy leaves have developed and they have another set developing from the middle of them, but they are still really little.

Too early for topping. I'd transplant now as well if they are in small containers. Are you planning on growing in a soiless mixture? If you are you're going to need some nutes because otherwise your plants will starve. If you use the verm and the perlite you can make a hempy bucket (which is similar to hanky's coco method), but like i said before you will need a good amount of nutes to keep them happy.
If you want to stick with soil i'd go out and buy something that's a bit more nutritious.

Alright. I've got a pot from walmart instead of a 5 gallon bucket though. I may transfer it later on if I can. I've got a small bag of perlite, I figure i'll mix in verm/peat and perlite. Or would coir be better than peat? I'm pasteurizing a bunch of stuff, so i'm looking to see what all I have around. I definitely need to transplant it. I see some of the roots starting to come out of the peat block.

When keeping plants short, how do you top, trim or prune? whats the best way to go about this, say if you want 4-5' plants? i just clipped off the node after the first fan leaves with a nail clipper, did i fuck up? all thats left is a stub.
yes! i did the search this is all that comes up.
