starting germed seeds in dixie cups

i took a 4oz spongebob dixie cup filled it with my soil and put my germed seed in it but i think i may have packed the soil to tight beacause when i put water in it it just sat on top of the soil n took forever to sink in any suggestions????

Get better soil(not Miracle Grow) and larger cups(18oz).
I have a grow journal, take a look.
2 to 3 ft tall plants in a 18 oz cup and was not root bound when transplanted.

did u poke holes in the bottom? is the water pooling because it has nowhere else to go? make sure it can drain out.

Yeah, not enough room. A good tip for soil that doesn't want to get wet is to add a touch of dish washing soap. Works great and causes no harm.
