FreshCaliJ's 1st Grow (Vegetative) (Update W/Pix)
    #212992 - 04/07/09 05:47 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

Double Gum
Fox Farm Ocean Forest
Germinated 3/21/09 (started in rockwool cubes in Green House ontop of heat mat)
Light on 24/0 using a 26w CFL
Temp. = 98* F. Humidity = ?
Superthrive (1ml/Gallon)
16x24x18 Carboard box for storage

^ Well that's what I had to start off my Germination process.

The seedling then sprouted out of the rockwool cube (4 days).
I transplanted the rockwool cube into a 20oz. Styrofome cup and filled it 3/4 full with the soil I had (FFOF) and cut holes through the bottom and sides. I put the cup in the box and left the lights on from 6:30am - 12:30am (using a timer) (12 days).
I now noticed that the leaves were a little droopy on the end of the leaves, so I watered and waited a day. Just stayed the same.
I now got a 5 gallon pot to transplant into. I did so by flipping the 20 oz. Cup upside down and didn't come out so I split the sides (cut with fingers) and came out. I noticed a lot of roots were along the design of the soil that had been in the cup. I then filled the5 gallon pot about 3/5 with my soil and I put the plant ontop. I covered from the bottom of the stem to the sides and evened it out. The leaves really got droopy and decided to mix 1 gallon of tap water with 1mL of superthrive and put it into a bigger box ( 20x48x16) and left the lights on overnight. Since I lost my timer I'm now aiming at a manual 18/6 light on off but from 7am- 1pm dark period.
I also poured 36oz. Of the water mix on top.
This afternoon when I visited them they seemed more up and alive.

Transplanting is stressful, they will recover. You went to a big pot a little quickly so you may see a lag in growth while the roots explore the new medium. Also, in a pot that large, you will not want to water very often at all, be very careful as over-watering is very possible. You also are going to want to get more lights and lower the temps quite a bit. 23w will not be enough to flower with and temps should really stay below 85 ( 70-80 is ideal), you may want to set up some sort of ventilation. Any pics of the space so we can visualize a bit better?

Well today I checked it around 645 am and put the fan towards it low low speeds. Lookin more alive.

Since l lost my timer I've been up and good about turning it off for the past week and a half but today I remembered as I was in class I unplugged the fan but not the light.
Should I just keep doing the routine before, off from 7am-1pm or should I keep it on 24 hours continously.?

Thanks much for the feedback doc, and yes I will b posting up some pix as soon as I get chance to hit up the library. Oh and the temps now are around 72*, lol I meant the 98* was for the germination greenhouse ontop of heat mat.

Q"s:
I have a 26w CFL and would like to add more but limited to space and outlets. But i'm interested.
How Many day light type, light white or bright white types should I get to even out light spectrum.?
Do I need to add lights now?

I'll be posting up pix hopefully tommorow.
Thanks

id keep the plants on 24/0 lights on.
go out and get some 42w cfls or 40w,
also if you can get a mix of 65w and 40-42w cfls.
keep them about 2-4 inches form the tops.

O and for your light choice I know that daylight is good for flowering but I think you want to stick with the cool white for vegging.
