RAID controller

I formatted this guys computer and had no fucking idea he had 2 SATA drives installed with a RAID controller. I have made custom disks to reinstall it but I cannot get XP to recognize the drive when I install them. I have done several computers with them before but usually do not format before I realize its installed and do a little research on the MOBO etc...
Anybody have any help for me? I'm stuck. I even took out 1 drive to try to install it on that but it wouldn't pick it up either.
I know you can press f6 to install the drivers but I don't have a floppy drive for the laptop. I used a program called nLite to install custom drivers in to XP itself but its still not working...

RAIDs a tough thing i was considering it for my comp but then i knew if 1 of the drives failed i'd be fucked and it did end up failing granted i could have done the raid setup that mirrors but i'd rather have it split and use both simultaneously

RAID 1(The mirror you referred to) is a waste IMO unless your data is very important. I'd just rather have an external USB drive to backup my sensitive data every night.
RAID 0 is where it's at but I guess it depends...He only has 2 60 GB drives so mirroring them isn't much of an option. He wants the additional space.
I'm stuck on this one...Bad.

I deleted the drive array in windows xp...The array is essentially what you create when you connect both drives.
Then I formatted them in the BIOS RAID utility...But when I boot in to the windows xp setup it doesn't detect the SATA drives. Windows XP SP2 is supposed to do this but its not...When I create the drive array and try the same thing it says no drives detected...
I need Seuss but I'm not going to the shroomery.

If you get a chance see if seuss thinks that windows xp pro sp3 will support the sata raid controller. I found a torrent that claims to be setup for it.

Just find out what raid controller he's using (if it's not on the motherboard) and install drivers during XP install. If you can't figure out what driver you need, take the raid controller out, on the chipset there should be a model number. If you google that number then you can find out what it is, get drivers, and be done with it.
if the controller is on the motherboard, just check out the mobo website and they should have the drivers there. If it's a dell/hp style pre-built, you can search by model. Worst case is to see what chipset the motherboard is and assume most motherboards with that chipset run the same raid controller on the south bridge

I ended up getting nLite with a custom SP3 disk to work. Thanks for asking him
