Lowering or Raising PH
    #211680 - 04/02/09 10:06 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

In this case its lowering the ph of 12 gallons water from my tap.
I'm getting a 8.7 reading and need to get it down to 5.3 to 6.3 range.
I have no idea. Add drops , maybe tsp.
Need some direction from someone with experience.

How long after adding ph down before I retest?

:bonghit:

Added 10 tsp of ph down thur the night. The last ph reading was at 6.5. Will let it set till 8 pm tonight Then will retest.

Looks like a lot of ph testing in this hobby.

Still would like to hear from someone with a little know how.

with ph down the ph should drop quickly. Maybe you might want to try new strips or a different water source.
there are also some nutrients you can get that you add to a gallon of water and it does mostly everything for you.
www.advancednutrients.com should have some if you want to lok into it.

Ph is so important Only noobs ignore this important process

Well I had to consult my notes but it takes me 8.5ml to bring 6 gal to 5.2+-.1 @ 320ppm

It will vary based on a few things though, distilled water will take less Ph down because it has no buffering capacity while hard water will take a lot because it is buffered. Also many manufactures use different concentrations in their Ph adjustment solutions so if you don't know the concentration, you kind of shoot blind for the first couple additions. Whenever I buy a new bottle of Ph down or change locations I always run a test with one gal of water to see how many ml of Ph down it takes to bring it into range and record the number; with that you can find a good estimate of the amount of Ph solution to use regardless of rez size.

As far as how long to wait before a retest, I usually wait for the water in my DWC system to be recycled twice (~20-30min).

6.3 At 8:30 am. Only up .1

Will continue to monitor over the day. If it stays close to 6.2 will start taking clones tonight.

Haven't had much luck reading ph strips.

Got a Milwaukee ph51 tester. This makes it simlpe to read ph.

As far as testing other water supplies, will be doing that soon.

Am also looking into R/O for this pirate's iland.
