pH adjusters and EC...

i bout 2 bottled of pH adjusters 1 bottle of pH up, and one of pH down. the pH down, contains phosphoric acid, and when i use enough to adjust my pH down to about 5.8, the EC of my solution skyrockets up to anywhere between 2.8 and 3.2 which is anywhere from 1960 - 2240 ppm. and that is before i have even added any nutes to my solution. so is this going to cause a problem? my initial reaction when getting that reading was to dump the water, and use the ph drops for my fish tank to do up a new solution. those drops hardly effected the EC of my solution. and i am able to add my nutes after wards and get the EC right where i want it.

That is very weird. I use phosphoric acid to lower my Ph all the time and have never noticed an increase in ppm. Maybe the bottle you have has some sort of contamination? Anyone else ever see anything like this?
