watts per square foot - peak efficiency?

i'm rigging up my second grow show and a question came to mind - i have two 600w rigs, and two spaces. one is 60" x 75" - about 21.3 square feet for grow. the other is 33" x 45" - about 10.3 square feet for grow. i could have one light in each, or two lights in the larger one. which would be more productive though? one 10.3ft^2 space with 58.3w/ft^2 and one 21.3ft^2 space with 28.2w/ft^2, or a single unified 21.3ft^2 space with 56.3w/ft^2? if it affects your answer, these are air cooled lights, and an air cooled room, and the grow is 100% hydro.

For the truly most effective use of that space, pick up a 400w MH and use the closet as a veg room. That way you could stagger your harvest and pull a crop every month. Barring that, I would say it's really a question of variables...

i have a 400w hps laying around for that reason exactly, but until i am abitious enough to fiddle with my household wiring, i'm limited to a 15 amp circuit and thus cant exceed 1440 watts continuous (i'm running 1200w in lighting, 100w fan, and a couple 40w water pumps).
so while you're absolutely correct and i plan to do just that, for the time being i need to decide between the choices discussed in my original post.

Id guess on 600w would flower the heck out of the 6foot closet... be careful with how close you get to your maximum power rating on any given house wiring circuit... you could come home one day and find the breaker has overheated and shut down your grow while you were gone, or worse...

15 amp breaker. 15amps = 1800 watts. Household circuits are rated for their maximum use, and rated to do 80% their max rating for continuous.
so that means 1440 watts on a 15 amp circuit is perfectly safe to use continuously as long as the wiring is not faulty.
600 + 600 + 100 (vortex) + 40 (cloner pump) + 40 (table flood pump) + 40 (dwc pump) = 1420w. I'm totally chillin mang.

true-- you can do that, just do it with caution.
better yet run your setup of a 240vac 15 amp circuit like you have for a clothes dryer and you can get twice the juice.
