this is my first grow. i have 5 plants about 4 inches tall. i live in Florida so it is warm here. i plan on growing my plants outdoors but i dont want to take care of male plants for 6 months. my plan is that at 7pm every night i will just put a bucket over the plants so they dont get light for the last couple hours of sunlight and then just take it off before i go to sleep. it will be on a 12/12 cycle but they will uncovered when its night time. will this work?

i'd let em get a lil bigger. do you know what strain? u could plant em and when they get bigger just tie a black bag over an arm on the plant. just remember to let it go back to norm when u notice the first signs, i mean break out an mag glass and get ta looking at the nods!

It sounds like a good plan. You should know in about 10 to 16 days.
Something to add is you may want to leave a small 1/2 gap at the bottom to allow air flow.

You can't leave a gap. It will let light in. They will be fine for two and a half hours covered, like he is basically saying.
Plants will show sex (generally) after the fourth week or so of veg growth. If you forced them into a 12/12 right now it will take a little over a week before the first male pre-flowers appear. Females a little longer. The pre-flowers will appear on the 4th node (or higher) from the bottom of the plants btw.

Yep. You gotta know what you are looking at though. Males tend to show sex first. It can take up to 6 weeks IME, but 4 seems average.
