So I played this gig last night, right
    #200935 - 02/28/09 11:56 AM (15 years, 8 months ago)

And we show up while the first band is playing some crazy ass hardcore shredder metal and whatnot.... it was pretty okay I guess, but it was just loud, distorted and yell-full.

Then my friend and I go up with nothing but two acoustic mandolins and blew everyones brains out with our ferocious finger abilities.

it was kinda funny to play bluegrass for a room full of rockers, but I guess they enjoyed it

Actually, I like both bluegrass and metal. I've had quite a few friends who are right at home playing either. I can relate to what you are talking about pretty well but your are right. Not something that you see every day.

it was kinda funny after we finished though, the next band walked up to us and was like, "Damn, I'm jealous that you actually know how to play your instrument."

I've always heard that is more likely to occur when the situation is opposite.

They seriously did, I'm not even kidding. and yeah, I had to bite my tongue too because.... well, they pretty much were nothing but power chords and distortion so yeah, they probably would have liked some talent for their music too

For a live show I can seriously get into moshing to some three chord punk and there is an art to showmanship imo but, someone who can actually play their instrument gets my respect every time. I wish I could play. I've attempted enough. I just don't have that sort of coordination required.

Have you tried playing with your tar tuned with a to 432hz? I dont know if it matters as much for all instuements but deffinately for the violin. just a bit higher is all :gethigh:

A bit lower actually, the 3rd string from the bottom on a violin is the A above middle C, which is 440hz. I don't see what possible advantage you think you gain from being 8hz flat, but most likely you'll just sound out of tune.

:awesome:

I asked for a mandolin for my birthday, and I think I may get one.
I tried playing the guitar and gave up, but I wanted to pick it up again, and mandolin is obviously cooler, and easier on my baby hands.

You should post some of yer stuff...

I will post some of my stuff for you later! I'm studying for a biology exam that starts in about 2 hours, so I'm a bit busy right now, but I think I posted you a lame song or two in that other thread from awhile ago. Ya know, the one where I was talking about learning Tom Bombadil.

I've got a good mic though, so I'll get something down for ya tomorrow maybe
