Building a box

I'm looking for some help designing my box.. I started out by looking at some premade boxes similar to these- http://www.4eversun.com/products.htm
But soon realized that they were outside my budget, and it would be easy enough to construct my own..
I have a budget of about 1000 dollars, and with the space I have, I'm thinking a 2x4 footprint would work well.. I was thinking I'd do a SOG for a shorter, more compact box..
Also, I am considering building it out of plywood, but am also looking at premade cabinets that I could modify.. I don't own any tools, so any tools that I would have to buy come out of my budget..
I'm completely new at this, so I'd appreciate some feedback from you guys!
edit:more specifically what I am looking for is plywood vs. Modified cabinet. Suggestions on dimensions.. Also suggestions for ventilation and filtration(of the smell)..

The big deciding factor for me between pre-fab and home made was the amount of time and effort involved. I consider myself relatively handy but designing and constructing a cab was just not worth it when I could buy one for 70$. I went with a home depot melamine cabinet. (Which you have to buy a back board for because the one they include is cardboard.) You can check out my construction thread Here. Mine is a bit bigger than what you are looking for but maybe you can find something that can help. Make sure to take a lot of pictures when you start building, I'd love to have a look.

That's a nice cab there doc, I'm gonna have to hit you up with some questions when i get back in the game. Recent space limitations and increased paranoia on the girlfriends part have forced me to retire my hydro hut and look for something a bit stealthier. I plan on running a 600 watt bulb in mine though, think the space would be adequate enough to handle the increased wattage? Are you just circulating your vented air back into the room again, or are you piping it somewhere else?

Heat is vented into the room where a window is usually cracked. With that size cab, I would recommend against a 600w, I have a bit of trouble with my 400w in a cool-tube (7o above ambient can get rough when it gets warm here.)
Good luck with your cab man, let me know how I can help.

crap, i need to come up with something similar that can handle a 600 watt light. Maybe a stronger fan might help. I just don't have the room for my tent anymore.
