i agree. I dont know how many times i've walked into a head shop and left with nothing cause they all fucking suck! Then my friends go in and buy like 10 cause they think its so cool. I really like my new one... nice size single person bowl, and it has a fucking white and red frog on the end with red swirls and its changing blue and purple... i'll get a pic of it when i get my new camera phone tomorrow...

sounds like something I'd smash on the sidewalk. Red and white frog? Maybe a pic will help. Hurry up with that.

um well i bet that those who have "bad taste" dont have much connection to good art. Ive lived next to venice beach, always a fun place to visit and check the smoke shops, i could always bargin and get a sick looking bub. but now away in norcal valley, i have only 2 smoke shops within driving distance and both places have the same blower supplying them--they look like shit. on top of that they overprice and dont bargin, so its not even fair. so i mean unless you got good art for cheaper, most people are going to have ugly pieces.
also depends how you look at it, some people buy for function. My roomate has a very plain looking double chamber bub. He chose to get the double chamber with an ugly look over a cool looking bubbler.

My favorite piece i own is a almost straight black piece with inlays of green and blue. Its strong, has a good angle so i can see what im doing, and it has an awesome grip. Oh, and a HUGE shallow bowl. I love it.
Oh yeah its a side car to.
But i agree with the taste thing, some people by these ridiculous looking things that make me want to puke.

I'm speaking from an aesthetic point of view.
Personally, I hate the look of bowls when they are covered in a splash of colors cause it "looks trippy." Fuck that...it looks like a 5 year old's attempt at painting. Usually colors clash and it just looks like a pile of hippie shit.
Bowls that have colors that complement eachother, and have simple, elegant designs are much more visually appealing.
My bowl is completely flat black with frosted glass. I really dig how sleek and modest it is.
Here's an analogy...
Shitty bowl that it's owner thinks is dope cause its all flashy and shit.
Artistically pleasing bowl, it's simple. Everything seems to flow and work together to create a whole.
I used cars cause they were easier to find than bowls...but I think you get the picture. Same type of car is in both pictures btw.

I had this glass pipe that kind of had the shape of a swan (the coolest looking sherlock you've ever seen.), wit was an amazing psychedelic purple with this glow in the dark green swirl on the bowl. When toking up the whole thing got this psychedelic purple glow to it.
It was my second pipe, and I got it for $8. I love being the friend of a grower who's mothers boyfriend owns a headshop.

There are two schools of though at varying degrees:
Group 1 starts with nothing and than uses only the essential materials needed to perform the given purpose with regards to ergonomics, simple & clean design, very few if any embellishments (like stripes/colours/spots)and than only for character
This Group believes that function should precede form. (ie simplistic to complex design, but all the features are solely based on neccesity, shape is targetted towards either the hit, compactness) aesthetics are usually just a means of giving a 'look' to indicate how it might function. much like looking at a porsche/audi r8/other exotic. See roor, illadelphia, thx...
Group 2 starts with a smorgasbord of shit that gets mixed up and moshed together without deliberation. The items forges are gaudy favoring kitschy, tacky design shit over performance and common sense. So now you have a trippy eyeball that impedes your grip on the pipe, a color palette of a preschooler with sloppy finishing. It probably doesn't hit well because the bowl had to be shaped weird to match it's whimsical design and likely you end up with a mouthful of ash.
This Group believes that form should precede function (ie looks cool, and if it smokes not so good, than whatever). They are the bongs and bowls with ornamental shit on them that gets in the way or ruins the overall function.

Ya, like one of my buddies had a bowl that had huge 1 inch spikes all over the place. It was the most awkward thing to hold ever. AND it was red, white, and blue. Come on now!
Voodoo: use this as the 2nd car then...
