Musical Instrument Repair

As some of you know, I build and repair stringed instruments for a living and also worked in the Gibson Custom Shop and for a few other well known builders. If any of you have any questions on how to do any repairs to your own instruments, ask here and I'll do my best to answer them for you. I will also answer any questions on building.

Would you say that making an acoustic is more difficult than an electric?!?

It's at a stop point right now. In the last month, I have taken orders on 10 instruments. That sort of puts my personal instruments on the back burner for a time until I get caught up.

I don't think any of it is particularly difficult, just time consuming. There is more to building an acoustic than an electric in terms of tap tones, bracing, bending, etc. But then again, you dont have to spin pickups for an acoustic.

I am a guitar player, and only play Gibson. I have other guitars, but I prefer a pitched neck. I think it's great you are offering your expertise, and good luck. There is a guy here near me that makes a nice guitar(soundexchange2),take a look. Do you have any ideas on where I can find decently priced used Gibsons. I collect them not for their monetary value, but for their tone.

PM me if you want to come by the shop. I'll give you the address. It's on Comm Ave, but I live by the NH border. All you need to do is make sure it is straight in the pocket so one outside string is pulling off the edge of the board.

I like Gibsons too. Maybe all that time I spent working in the Gibson Custom Shop.
You can usually find some great deals on Craigslist. Especially now that the economy is shit.

I dont repair tube amps, but I know a bit about them.
You actually want a lower watt tube amp because the tone doesnt really open up until you turn it up a bit. That's why a lot of people arent satisfied with Marshall amps. You cant turn a 100 watt Marshall up bast 5 without hurting your ears.

So would 20 watts of a tube amp fill a decent sized coffee shop or small gig?
