Transplanting during flowering

Can you upgrade to a larger size planter shortly after the plants show sex after switching over to flowering? say you switch from 18/6 hours of light to 12/12 long enough to show the plants sex, then transplanting to a 5 gallon bucket from a dixie cup.... will this effect anything negatively, I've read that you should transplant during veg then allow the plants to show early signs of flowering before going to 12/12 and switching over to HID? also would switching over from a 80w flouro during veg to a 400w hps for flowering be a good idea or should I just wait for the switch over to 12/12 lighting?
Please help.

recently, i did a seed grow. after a couple of weeks outside flowering, they started to show sex. i went from a 1 gallon pot to a 5 gallon. when i harvested, i took a look below the soil line; i shouldve transplanted to a 2 or 3 gallon pot.

Transplanting at the beginning of flower is fine. Ideally you would wait until plants show sex on their own during veg but it isn't necessary. You should switch from the 80w floro to the hid asap, they increase light should only increase the speed of growth.
