don't buy a soil meter, you want something that will test the water and your run off.

1.) because they're inaccurate
2.) because different layers of your soil can have different PH readings
3.) because even thought it's soil it's best to PH your solution BEFORE you pour it (which you can't do with a soil meter) and if you want to test the PH of your medium your best using the run off instead of the medium itself.

oh, i also forgot, it's also not a really good thing to be jamming a soil probe in your soil over and over again. Maybe that's just a personal preference but i don't like fucking with my root system too much.

Yup, they're very accurate. If you save some cash up you can find some decent pen PH/PPM/EC meters for 70 bucks and up.
