MH is best for veg. Though hps will work it's more suitable for the flowering stages of growth.

you know what i did in english class? I came to class stoned out of my mind every day, i chugged vodka in the back of class, i put dead fish in the ceiling tiles. i put a gallon of old milk and orange juice in the file cabinet before winter vacation. i brought snakes in a tied up sweater and let them loose during class. i didnt go to school to learn, i went because i had to. i didnt care, and i didn't fucking listen to that stupid bitch. and i still don't fucking care. i tore the pages out of her books and burned them, and threw away all the books in the class, two books per day.

That's what I thought, since its going to be my first time growing I am going to start with just HPS until I get a better idea of how I want to do everything. I dont want to invest a lot into my initial setup

yea. U can even supplement the hps with some cfl's in the proper spectrum during veg if ya wish. either way it's the hps that's make the fat buds.

They pwn

nope, check out Lumatek Electronic Ballast Systems, or NextGen
Xtreme Switchable Systems are probably the best garden lights available, and not too pricy either

Thanks and while we have you here, do you know of a good brand of soil tester? Would recommend digital over the pH strips?

Yes, I would go with digital, but that's just my personal preference.
If you have some cash to blow on some soil, definitely pick up FoxFarm Ocean Forest Potting Soil, or any of the Roots Organics soils.

Thats the way to go MH veg and HPS to flowering. The only way to go.
