Soil Test
    #152456 - 11/27/08 10:37 PM (16 years, 30 days ago)

I,m getting ready to do one. Plant leaves are yellowing.Starting from the bottom and working up.

From what I've read I think its nitrogen.
However some planet are doing very well, others are starting to follow this yellow trend.

My ? , Should I take my reading after watering with straight water or after with water containing guano?

I would personally do it after the guano...These things can effect the nitrogen etc.

Testing after watering with guano will throw off the test. The guano water will make the test read high N. Do the test first, if it comes back deficient in some area, correct the problem.

How do you test the soil?
Is there a certain type of kit to get?
is it a pH test?

I would opt for a electronic ph tester.O and make sure if the soil is dry b4 testing youll need to water with a nuetral ph water or distilled. If its your veins yellowing I think it could be because your ph is over 7.I could be wrong though. But if the leaf between the veins are yellowing starting at the lower leaves then nitrogen deffiency

Strips are more accurate I promise you.

It's just like hygrometers for mushroomers...The digital ones suck...The analog ones are awesome if its a decent ones.

mh I have to disagree. Every chem lab I have ever been in uses digital Ph meters because of how much more accurate they are. Human error is introduced by comparing colors like when you use strips or drops; digital meters can only be read one way.

If you get a good one. He is more than likely talking about one you get 9.99 from walmart. Those things are terrible, and the strips are a better choice in my opinion.

If you get a nice digital one then I agree, and I think I said that...

No I didn't. Anyway, if it's a good one then yes, but if it's one you get from the dollar store don't expect anything good.

This kit came from a nursery. It does ph,N,P and K. Cost $15.

PH was 7. Will wait 2 day to test soil. Will only use water. Hope thats enough time.

According to Jorge Cervantes and my own experience, cannabis in soil grows best at 6.5-7 and hydroponically at 5.8-6.5.

I really like happy frog, a mix by fox farms I believe. I've also heard good things about ocean forest by fox farms. If you want a good soilless mix, try promix.

Great! thank you for the helpful information! I am hopefully going to start building my new setup in a couple of weeks. I think im going to try and build a big indoor greenhouse out of PVC pipe with some sort of lining that isnt transparent.

You have any suggestions for what to use for that? I also need to look into how to make a good carbon scrubber

I use black and white poly film (Panda film) to line my tents. It's worked out so far.

Perfect! It seems relatively cost effective also. Do most hardware stores sell something like this or is it best to order it online?
