New Medical Grower.

Just to clarify, I am posting this early, as Michigan has yet to set up its registration system for medical marijuana patients. First off, as a medical patient I would be alotted 12 plants, or 2.5 ounces useable medicine. I am trying to figure out what is the best method of growing for me. I have been thinking of doin a SOG "micro grow" (4' tall by 3' wide, by 2' deep) and I was thinking of a large passive intake vent on the bottom, with this ventilation fan coming out of the top running through a homebrew carbon scrubber http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100081599&N=10000003+90401&D=exhaust+fan I will be initially doing compact flourescants so I wot need a col tube around any of the lights. What Im not sure of is if this exhaust fan (50 cfm) will be strong enough to vent my cab. I'll be using 8 42 watt bulbs, any advice, tips, or anyting is extremeley helpful. Thanks!

8 cfl's, why bother then. The fan is strong enough for your space.
Sorry don't mean to be a downer but I'm slightly known for hating cfl lights. Waste of growers time. 10 forty watt fluorescent bulbs use the same amount of energy as a 400 watt HID, but produce far less light. Since they use the same amount of energy but produce less light, the remaining must be given off as heat. Contrary to how it may first appear, fluoros actually run hotter than the equivalent wattage of HID-- they just disperse the heat over a wider area.
I'll make it simple. Some dirt, dixie cups and a 400watt

Hey magash, been a long time since we spoke in #cultivation, years infact. Ive seen some amazing things done with CFL's on ICMAG, but if I could afford a HPS system, and a vortex dan Id go that way, the cfl route is just because Im absolutley broke and have no other way to grow my meds. I can only hope that I find a second job soon so Ill be able to get this all sorted out.

Im going to go cfl at first my self and then over time i plan to upgrade to a 400 or 600watt digital HPS system with cool tube. Then i'll just use cfl for veg growth. Thinking of buying a 3'x3'x6' HomeBox tent for both veg and flower at first and then invest in another small tent for my mother plant and clones.
Don't have the $1000-$3000 to blow all at once, so i am trying to plan my setup so i can upgrade in steps over time. In other words i don't see whats wrong with cfl for new growers.

Eight 42 watt bulbs cost around 120$ for around 50 more you could get a HID (High Intensity Discharge Lighting)
If you go with CFL's your still going to have to get all the hardware to get power to the individual bulbs man. Thats going to cost you time and money you have to figure in.
But go ahead and blow your money. I just feel sorry for the sick people that are going to get your weed and not have it help them because you failed to educate yourself thoroughly about the benefits of HID's
look you can get 400 watt light kit for around the same price as 8 42 watt CFL's http://cgi.ebay.com/400-watt-HPS-GROW-LIGHT-400w-System-Sodium-Ballast-sun_W0QQitemZ400007088777QQcmdZViewItemQQptZHydroponics_Seed_Starting?hash=item400007088777&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1309
System includes:
- Brand New REMOTE 400 watt HPS BALLAST and Components
- Brand New HIGH EFFICIENCY FOUR SIDED HORIZONTAL REFLECTOR with 10' cord
- Brand New 400w HPS Bulb (50,000 lumens!)

you really can't weigh the difference until you grow a set w/ CFLs than MH/HPS, get an HPS setup & a MH Conversion bulb; $200 on ebay for all items save up $$$ for it

Not to be a asshole here but 1/4 lb from 546 watts of light good? With the same effort and less power used by a 400 watt hid and you would have tripled it. These results are exactly what I'm talking about.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Annom got ~200g from TEN plants using a 400w lamp, and I got 112g from FOUR plants using 546watts of CFLs for nearly half the price...
CFLs ftw. Sorry.

his last grow with 10plants was 280gr I believe.
he has also got 380gr with his commercial white grow.
Basically Magash is saying... your going to get half the return of lumens per watt with cfls vs HID.
Someone could get 2gpw with HID and the same person could get 1gpw with CFLS. That 1gpw would sound very impressive but it would still be half as much return.

ya dude plants just react differently to a MH than a CFL. How it is, is that "CFLS WORK" but "HID" is the SHIT.
that's an easy way of putting it. Get a conversion bulb w/ HPS & your set. that's what im gonna do next round, now I am using CFLs so please do not think that I knock CFLs, just comparing the two, HID is far superior- the plant itself would have been stronger had better life-span due to a more natual intensity of light causing the genetics to be good, and flowering right under another high intensity, closest to natural sun we can get w/ technology, yet again provides enough light to prove the plants better yields.
it's a simple change of variables that cause immassive effects like this.
but CFLs are cool if you are on a budget
.. you just wont get the dankest of the dank. imho

He said "I'll be using 8 42 watt bulbs"
Go price 42 watt CFLs and then tell me he's going budget. He could literally get a HID for the cost of 8 42 watt CFL's! COME ON PEOPLE!
EDIT: Ok so you can get 8 42 watt CFL's from wallmart for just under 70 now. Wow over the last month CFLs have dropped or im going insane
