Total Newb

I am a total newb, and have never had any experience growing anything. I am very interested in learning about botany and vegetation. I really want to create a vegetable garden on my land too. But every good crop has to begin somewhere. What are the best avenues of beginning a project? Seeds? Cuttings? Keep in mind I am absolutely wet behind the ears here.

well, if you want to go learn about gardening, go visit the other growables section. If you want to talk about cannabis cultivation, grow up, stop beating around the bush, and just talk about it. That's what this forum is for.
If you have the option, a cutting will always be the best route to go. It's a bit faster, you won't have to worry about sex, and if it's a good cutting you won't have to worry about the genetics either.

Well, shiitakes and such are a start- but weed is much harder. If you've seriously never grown plants before, consider starting with a couple of cactus.

How would you go about obtaining quality cannabis seeds? Is it true that seeds from a bud of schwag can be grown into a potent bud producing plant?

Depends, if you got bad weed that was grown and dried well then the answer is no. Bad weed that was fucked up in the growing or drying process (most common place to fuck up weed is in the drying) then yeah it can be done.

Not sure I follow you Magash. Although I did follow your 'syringe to print using rye' tek and I congratulate you for imparting that knowledge on the shroomery. I guess I just need to find a seed supplier, but I've heard that its risky.

he's saying that well grown, potent, cannabis can be turned into shit when someone fucks up drying the buds. If the product was shit to begin with then you won't be able to make it stronger.

whatever you do... don't go to commercial fields and take cuttings of their genetics... they will have very good genetics and be monocultures that are mutated tri/hex ploids that don't make seeds because their chromosomes cant pair at meiosis
taking the genetics regardless of how good they are would be illegal because the farmers sign contracts that say they wont save the genetics and will purchase yearly.
DON'T DO IT!

you asked one question and i answered it, how is that hard to get information. Why don't you try asking more questions before you start bashing the people who are trying to help you.

Read read and more read. That's what is (and should be) said at the Shroomery and I'll say it here. Get a good book (Cervante's Grower's Bible is good I hear tell. Look around this forum. If you don't find your info (Such as in the GROW LOGS) then check out other forums. Do a Goog search for "how to grow marijuana"....URMAZING results !
The basics: * Choose medium: hydro, soil, or soilless. * Choose nutrients: all natural (or natural based), chemical, or a mix. * Choose light: Sun, HID, or even CFL's. They all have pros and cons. * Choose container: ground, Solo cups, 2 liter bottles, 25 gallons totes, the list goes on. * Choose ventilation: computer fans, squirrel cage fan, a nice NW wind, inline fans. * Choose smell reduction: fuck it (outside;)), carbon filter, or I've even heard of using a little bucket with Lemon Lysol or Pinesol in it with a bubble stone, or fuck it (inside, not recommended). * Choose technique: fuck it (just let em grow), LST, HST, super cropping, Sea of Green (SOG), Screen of Gree (SCROG), bonsai * Choose starting point: seed, clone, or if you're gifted with a plant to "resurrect" (not for the inexperienced)

cool, thanks for the pointers. I did read the entire "grow mj" section of the main site, including all the sub-categories. feel like i got a good knowledge base. nothing hasty though, i haven't really got a place to put any plants considering i live in an apartment complex.

true, from what i've read it doesn't take all that much room, however I feel that it would be too risky to set up in a place where ventilation would be limited and there's always people around.
