Mousetraps are mean, take them out.
Chicken wire, much better. Not just around your plant(s) but to cover up the holes, too. And/or steel wool.
Don't bother with that expanding foam, they'll eat right through it.
And, try placing some peanuts or something at the other end of the yard. Squirrels are like the Mafia- you don't defeat them, you buy them off.

Bull, i defeat them with a pellet gun frequently. They like my garden. Squirrels also taste good fried, with biscuits and mashed potatoes and gravy.

If you have to defeat them 'frequently', you aren't winning... but if you get a meal out of it, it's all good.

If you're not intending to eat the squirrel or anything, I'd definitely have to recommend concentrating more on prevention. I'm assuming it wouldn't be too difficult to get more chicken wire on the walls to keep them from coming in. Squirrels are inquisitive, playful creatures taking advantage of the opportunity to explore.... removing that opportunity is a much better solution than popping one for just being a squirrel.
