Miracle Berries

My roommate and I recently stumbled upon a plant called Miracle Berry. Has anyone ever heard of this?
It's not psychoactive, but apparently it does something to your tongue, making sour and acidic stuff taste really sweet.
My buddy bought 4 plants online today, and I think I'm gonna keep a growlog of them.

I'll definitely keep y'all posted. I'll probably end up making a thread dedicated to different stages of the growlog, but apparently it takes a few months to start fruiting.

great luck man! they are fun to grow, but i would guess if your buying online, the plants are small...so it may take a little longer than a few months to get berries...just a guess. i bought mine in 2 gall. pots and they were starting to flower at that size.

sounds cool.
i've heard of stuff like this. there must be some compound in the berry that inhibits specific types of receptors in taste buds, allowing you to only taste flavors that are normally overwhelmed by those that have disappeared due to the inhibition.
this is similar to the reason why orange juice and other stuff tastes horrible after brushing your teeth. certain detergents in toothpaste temporarily shut down cells in your taste buds, but only in certain types of taste buds, specifically those that detect sugar/sweetness. with these taste buds temporarily out of order, you are then selectively tasting all the sour and bitter stuff in the juice that normally isn't even detected. pretty cool stuff

the compound is called miraculin and has no taste itself. it is thought to change the structure of the sweetness receptors on tastebuds. normally only sourness receptors can detect the presence of acids, but miraculin might make the sweetness receptors sensitive to acids, hence what normally tastes sour becomes sweet.

I think it makes bases change flavors too. sour things become sweet and bitter stuff become.... different?

I guess in some places they have parties where people eat the berries and then they have this weird pile of hors doeurves for everyone to try. People are like pouring tabasco on their tongues, and drinking mustard...sounds odd.

i think you are expecting a little too much....you will probably feel disappointed cause the reality of eating a lemon and tasting sugar, which we eat daily, is not incredibly entertaining on its own...if your tripping, it may be a bit more amusing

I just know that for the most part, they need a fairly high humidity and warm temperatures
I could be wrong about the temperatures though.

im not sure how they are in cold, dry...its hot here all round and very humid....tropical area. they grow in ground (or in pots) outside under full sun year round, and love it! they dont seem to like getting dry though, wilting happens fast if not attended to.
