According to The Secret Life of Plants, any non self polinating plant requires a seperate fertilization for each seed even. So this seems very sound. However I wa reading a book that was talking about breeding with hermies and how it is supposedly a technique to create feminized seeds.

From what I've read, land race Thai varieties have a tendency to go hermie. However it seems like in certain crosses that trait has been eliminated. I would think that if this was next to impossible then people wouldn't breed with it. Apparently at least Blue Velvet, California Orange , Flo, Jacks Cleaner, Juicy Fruit, Northern Lights, Northern Lights #2, Trainwreck, and Uber Candy Haze, are varieties containing some Thai genetics. I pulled that list from here:

And I read that Thai land races have that issue here if I'm not mistaken:

I'll try to go back by the bookstore and see if they have the book that I was reading still. Then I can quote it more precisely. However the author was talking about doing something besides what you mentioned when breeding I'm pretty sure. I'm not saying he's right over you. I have no real experience in this to contest your word. I'm just stating what I've read.

Both actually, I brought up the land races because it seems like maybe that tendency can be bred out. However I guess what they probably did is selected for the few plants that didn't do this. I wonder if hermie plants were themselves ever involved. Then I was just responding to what you said here:

"This only works if the plant was female and was stressed into reversing sex. If it was a true hermaphrodite or a strain prone to going hermie due to light environmental stress, the seeds will just be hermies as well."

and like I said I'm a little fuzzy on what the actual wording was in the book I was thinking of. However I don't know that they really made a distinction between the two types of hermies either... I think I read that wrong last night. At any rate though, over successive generations this couldn't be eliminated? How well does a hermie self pollinate? How much room is there for foreign pollen? Obviously some of the pistels are going to be fertilized by it's own pollen, but it seems like nature would allow for some outside material to get in to ensure genetic variability. Sorry to not be more clear. I haven't been getting enough sleep as of late so my head's a bit foggy.
