Rabbit Manure
    #117594 - 09/03/08 03:39 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I've never heard of anyone using rabbit droppings as a manure source, so I was wondering how effective it is?

i read on a website that the Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium content are 2.4, 1.4, and .60 respectively.

I assume that since I've never heard of it, lagomorph droppings are useless, but I'd like some professional advice

Thanks

I don't know anything about rabbit manure or using organic soil amendments in general, but since you know what the NPK values should be on average, it should be more than possible to use it. One more thing you'd have to know, though, is what quantity of rabbit manure that NPK value is for. Did the website include that?

I believe it is the concentration in percentage, to the general bulk of the manure as a whole.

Thanks for the input:thumbup:

Yeah, I guess that is what NPK values are, just woke up and everything.

I think it is a bit weaker than a lot of other things that people would use, so you'd end up needing to use a good amount of it, or it would work well as a small additive with something else. If you were using it on its own, I think you'd end up with potassium deficiencies, and you'd definitely want something to boost the P/K when flowering begins.

one thing you probably want to do is sun bake that poop.  when we make our own fertilizers for the farm (non-pot farming), all poo is let sit on sheets for a couple months in direct hot nasty uv filled sun rays.  when the poop is white, we fry it up in a big wok to kill any bacteria etc, this makes it pretty light weight and almost fluffy.....best fertilizers hands down!  and safe!

i have not done rabbit poop, but i would still do it the same way, its tried and tested among many farmers around this country.

i would imagine rabbit poo to be very similar to horse manure.  same diet and all, and after sitting out in the elements for awhile, both break back down into that hay-like consistency.

good point.  i must admit, the poop here is a much less grassy flavour....more weight to it, a meaty look to it

would the poop from rabbits (wild rabbits?) be ok with all the non broken down stuff in it?
