How about an anonymous posting option in the cultivation forums so people don't need to make a grow puppet necessarily.

Could you make it completely anonymous though?
Not saying it's not a good idea and wouldn't get (over)used, but could it be as secure as using a puppet behind a proxy/on another connection?

I'll leave that to the technical gurus that be. Off the cuff, I don't think we'd want to do that simply due to the potential abuse that could occur.

I just want to add that everyone who posts in an anonymous thread shouldn't be simple known as "Anonymous",
but have some kind of sequence number added, so we know who is replying to us.
But as you say, that's more Ythan's department.

I also want the ability to make a post as myself, should I desire to do so.
So the option to "Post as Anonymous" should be included.

The primary concerns are these:- Anonymous posting (as it currently exists) keeps username associations on the server, though this information is generally only available to the admins (
 ).
- Providing the same style of anon posting here for the cult forums may result in a false sense of security (
 ).
- Custom-hackin' the anon feature so that it is truly anonymous may result in unchecked abuse by idiots ().
- Custom-hackin' the anon feature so that there is a temporary (48 hour?) link to the original poster's account, and then having the server automatically delete the associations, may be a worthwhile compromise ().
- Such a custom hack requires extra work ().
It is something to think about...

I obviously don't know your source code but it doesn't sound like that would be too terribly difficult to implement and provided we have enough moderation I think would work effectively. Since you said you didn't come up with it, great thinking Ythan and thanks for sharing Geo.

Link two tables using a secondary key on the anonymous users tables, include a date posted field. Run a cron job that runs a mysql script that removes all data from the secondary key if the record is older than 48 hours when the cron job runs. Pretty sure this is a possibility as long as the anonymous data is a separate table and the database follows the rules of normalization. This would allow the admins 48 hours to figure out if abuse is occurring. Just my two cents I can't see how the database tables are built.
Good suggestion on the 48 hours geokills. I really feel this is a good idea, I mean a hour or so of coding probably to potentially save years of prison for a great number of people, if the shroomery/growery servers are taken by the dea. I don't like all the i.p logging either , I think they should be logged breify to compare for a banned i.p and then deleted. Not that anything that is deleted doesn't have the chance of being brought back, at least if it's deleted it has the chance of being written over.
