Shipping Of Seeds

Just a quick question, since my friend hasn't ordered any seeds yet (grew outdoors once from some really nice commercial bud). Is it standard practice for vendors to send seeds in a regular envelope? I realize it might be an obvious question, but I just thought I'd ask, because receiving them in an envelope would be great, but having them sent in a package would mean a world of trouble. Also, not sure if this is kosher or not since I don't think we have any seed vendors, but has anyone ordered from seedsman.com before?

Usually they're packaged in some stealthy manner ie: inside a CD case etc. Seeds packaged just in a plain envelope tend to get crushed by the rollers in mail sorting machinery resulting in a useless crushed mess being delivered to your door.

Yes, I could definitely imagine that they would need some protection to survive shipping, I was just wondering if that is still included in a basic envelope or not, because if its regular mail, it won't get inspected coming into the country, but if it is any kind of package, they'll pop it open.

A Monkey has sent hash to the States from Aust a few times in padded envelopes with no problems at all.
You could specify in your order that you wish them sent in such an envelope i suppose. You could even mail them the pre adressed envelope you wish them to use plus a money order for postage and your beans.
I'm sure most reputable seed banks will be happy to discuss there shipping methods and options as it is in their best interests to give their customers maximum peace of mind.

Yes, this makes perfect sense, and my friend was going to verify their shipping methods before ordering, but I thought I'd just ask in the meantime for thoughts out of personal experience. Thanks for the input!

if you ever need to ship seeds, i received some several years ago in an ingenious fashion. mind you, this is no stealth technique, but rather damage control for sending in a regular envelope. when i got mine in the mail i opened it to find them in the tube of a pen with the innards removed. just remove the tip and ink from a regular bic pen, insert seeds, tape the end, and you have a virtually indestructible shipping package.

this is always how my friends got their seeds. You got a pack of bic pens that had been opened and resealed. One of the pens had your seeds and the others were normal, working, pens. Never lost a package this way.

I've seen the CD case method used a few times. Seems to work pretty good, they hide it internally behind the actual CD. Never any problems..

I've always assumed they send their seeds in a vial. And just package it in a box.

My first time receiving seeds in the mail, i found the seeds in a small tubular canister taped inside a High Times magazine.
For the longest time i thought i got jipped until one day i was reading the magazine and saw my seeds taped inside.

So you guys aren't worried about buying seeds from out of the country? Is there a country that you prefer to order from? I have almost ordered some so many times, but I am nervous. Also, I read in J. Cervantes "bible" that if customs does seize your pkg, they will send a letter, but thats it. What do ya know about that one?

All of my international orders have come from the UK and i have never had a problem. If your order does get seized, though the chances are slim, Customs will just mail you a letter and forget about it.
I have a friend who has gotten plenty of these letters and nothing has happened to him.... yet.
If you really want to order seeds, do it. Trusted vendors always have a supply of high quality seeds with incredible genetics.

Did your friend receive those letters for cannabis seeds or other items? I'd be worried if I received a seizure letter for cannabis seeds to by grow address because there is really only one thing someone is going to be doing with cannabis seeds and thats grow them.

Yup. Cannabis seeds exactly.
The letters were all warnings with no consequences.
But who knows. Maybe one day it'll bite him in the ass.
