It's a week long festival that focuses on hot air balloons. Apparently its the largest balloon festival in the world.
They cancelled all of the sunday flights due to shitty weather conditions..but this is what it looks like on a good day.

Since the flights got cancelled, we took a drive out to Cerillos, which is an old turquoise and gold mining town (it was once the largest town in NM and the main supplier of turquoise for Tiffany & Co.)
The town is mostly abandoned these days, but we walked around the old main street and my wife found a little chunk of turquoise laying on the side of the road.
We also saw a few tarantulas on the drive, they've been doing their mating/migrating thing for the last few weeks so they're everywhere. This one was as big as my hand.

That's awesome. There is a giant wolf spider in my house somewhere. I was chilling playing video games the other day and I looked over it was only a few inches away from me...I said HOLY FUCKING SHIT And got up. It just slowly moved so I said nope and went to get a container or something, but when I came back......it was gone

Yeah I follow some hot weather (or maybe it's traffic?) chick from New Mexico on IG. I think she's on the Albuquerque news. She was posting sweet pics of it the other day
I'll be going back through New Mexico again in about a month. Kinda wanted to make a quick stop in Santa Fe to check out Meow Wolf. Have you been? Would it be worth it?

Yeah some wolf spiders get HUGE. Mean looking motherfuckers. But apparently they're largely harmless.

Meow Wolf is awesome, I really enjoyed it.
It can get pretty crowded, so I recommend going during a weekday, maybe during normal lunch or dinner hours.
I've heard from everyone that it's amazing on psychedelics, but I would get too paranoid.

I'd be swinging through on an early Sunday morning. When it opened. I've heard it's even more busy at opening because everybody has the same idea -- get there early to beat the crowds. But that would be my only shot because I got stacked plans the rest of the time I'll be in New Mexico. Might have to pass...idk.
And yeah I would LOVE to trip there, but...it would be way too busy of a place for me to even remotely consider that. I've read that it can get very crammed in there.
