Mitchnast first legal cannabis grow.

So, for the past 10 years, I've conducted myself in a strictly legal manner. And now, finally, growing marijuana is legal in canada. My mother is fighting cancer, so I may have a use for the final product though she is also growing her own and probably all her friends too. It's an exciting time in Canada.
I dont know the strain, I had a homeless traveler friend visiting me for a few weeks last fall, and she wanted weed but I havent had a connection in nearly a decade, the not quite-legal dispensaries were all shut down, and the government hadn't figured out how to provide legal weed yet, so we went for a walk in the desert, and as I always do, somehow I found what my friend desired. A bag of shwaggy, seedy weed. It was next to a spot where transient fruit pickers had dumped their belongings. Lots of spices, clothes, lentils, real healthy yurt dweller stuff. I pulled about 40 seeds out of it and saved them for the spring.
In late March, I germinated them. I got 100% About a 3rd were really mutated looking, with weird twisted leaves and many had unseemingly long cotyledons. I started them in small pots under 24hr 4ft t5s, x4. Which I have as an aquarium hood.
Growth seemed very slow and after 3 weeks they started to take off a little. I gave them some 20-20-20, and they darkened up deep and started growing, males immediately flowered. Ultimately, of the 40, I ended up with 9 viable females.
This shall be the story of the best 4. As that is the legal ammount to grow here. I shall begin with a quick dump of the indoor pics after culling the males.

So I made an outdoor bed, raised slightly, and depressed at the summit, mainly mushroom compost, stirred with peat, topsoil and coir. And topped with manure and some dolomite lime, I prep the bed by stirring it into a slurry with the hose and letting it set. Then I planted my 4 best, fairly evenly as shown. This was in mid may.

The first 3 plants immediately went into flower, I water every few days, or every day, and add nitrogen weekly. The flowering has started to back off a bit on the lower growth and I'm seeing some return to veg as we enter mid may. The one largest, beefy plant is determined to flower. In contrast, the one farthest away has no sign of flowering. It's quite lanky and I think I have a lot of sativa genetics going on here, though that one squat one has some real indica looking traits. These pics are up to date, as of may 12.

Starting to see some return to veg on the largest plant, strong return on the squat one, still no flowering on the lanky one.
One smaller plant looks pretty hardcore into the flowering, but who knows. Nitrogen food seems to be darkening the leaves up again. Lot of change for 2 days. Might spray in a little more dolomite lime soon, keep that magnesium available.

June 26. Just after a decent rain. The fans on the thinnest one are as big as my head, and it's really starting to fill in. I sorta thought it would be a bit of a dud for bud, but well, almost 3 months of vegitative growth to go can change a lot I'd reckon.

Nice looking plants. Where I am we usually don't sow outdoors until the days are longer in order to avoid the premature flowering you experienced. Late April or early May. The big problem here is rain right around when everything wants to mature. Bud rot is a bitch.
What are the cacti in the one picture, if you don't mind my asking?

Oh some Echinopsis perivianus, lageniformis, and more than a few lophophora Williamsii, both regular and caespitose, not to mention pereskiopsis, and a few gymnocalyxium and escobaria.

Rain in this region usually doesnt occur much from may to October, though this has been a mercifully wet early summer. Its semi-arid here and it can be expected to be quite dry from now till winter, which is swell, as a few of my plants persist in flowering rather substantially. I'm not looking to make a smokable product though, Phoenix tears are the plan, for my mother to aid her in her battle with cancer.

It appears that we share taste in cacti. I have 8 seed-grown E. peruviana as well, along with some 52 L. williamsii, all hard grown.

View from the roof

Although the plants were all grown under the same conditions, I have very varying results. This one plant is determined to flower. And even though the flowers are all very immature, they are substantial, I think I should really feed it more flowering fert to offset the drain it must be undergoing being made to veg in July sun with high nitrates. I mean, look at the poor baby, it's just a football girthed bat of prebuds. I'm really hoping it stays the semi-arid summer we usually have so at least it can cone somewhat close to a finish with minimal rot.

July 14, I have decided to bend down the end plants to give more sun exposure to... well, everything, including the bent ones.
2 plants are clearly autoflower strains, and the other two are vegging, one strictly so, And very lanky, but huge, the other very bushy with some flowering.
I've taken to feeding each per it's own tendency. So I'm giving the flowering plants 12-34-12 with 10-0-0 calcium and magnesium booster, about one tsp of each per 4L.
And I'm giving the veggie ones the same, but with 17-15-17.
They are all growing in the same bed, so theres going to be some overlap, but they are hungry little buggers and they probably get most of what gets put into their own little patch.
