Rumors on the web suggest he contracted malaria while in the Congo helping those already infected.

Wow he was my favorite guy in the Strain Hunter series. He always seemed like the most passionate and biggest "believer" in Cannabis-based-medicine's powers out of everyone in the group; Arjan seemed a bit more profit-motivated and the guy with dreads appeared to be just along for the ride.

RIP, you lovable bastard.
