That's a damn fine car. The new outbacks are just glorified awd mini vans.

My Forester is about the same age and is getting outrageously expensive to keep on the road.

Yeah I hear this can be an issue. I am actually having the head gaskets replaced this friday (dealership is paying for it)
How many miles does yours have? Mine is sitting at just over 100k right now
After they do the head gaskets next weekend, I plan on taking it to a mechanic who works on subaru's and having him do a complete inspection and give me a list of everything that needs to be fixed.
I am looking foward to driving it in the snow this winter though!

My buddy's '05(?) Outback crapped out at 275-300,000 miles, so with regular maintenance, you should get a decent few miles out of her.

Yeah, that might explain why you are starting to mount up the repairs
That's a lot of fucking miles. I will be happy if I can get 200k+ out of mine

Ah, alright that makes more sense although I do know people who go over 200k miles in their subaru's
I will have a much better sense of the condition of the car in a couple weeks after the head gaskets are fixed and a full inspection is done. I have a feeling I am going to have to replace the CV boots too. There seems to be something with the front axle.
I am fortunate to have a solid job and a bit of money saved though where I feel I can properly service the car and keep it in good shape. I think as long as I stay on top of things and fix them as they need done, it shouldnt get too overwhelming. at least that's the hope.

I did the head gaskets on mine 2 years ago. Since then a whole list of other repairs. Apparently there is an issue with the CV now too. I love the car, just hate the repairs.

Seems like the head gaskets and the CV's are common with them. It's a shame.
I would really like to put some money into after-market things if everything is mechanically sound with it. I figured I would wait until winter is over anyways before I start doing things to it. I would like to throw a new exhaust system, cold air intake, and definitely do something with wheels/tires.

If/When I do, I am going with something black. It doesnt make sense to put new wheels and tires on right before winter though, it will just fuck them up.

I'd save that money for you next one if I were you. In a couple years you could be where I'm at.
On a related note, I'm looking at the Ram Ecodiesel
