There's actually a spreadsheet posted in the cult forums that can help you calculate your cost of growing to see if it would be an economical option for you.
https://www.growery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/754472/gonew/1#UNREAD
Edit: on second thought, you may need to do a fair amount of research on method and products before this actually becomes useful to you. I didn't take into consideration that you likely don't know much (no offense intended) about the actual process if you're asking questions like this. This is more useful for someone who already has a grow going to calculate costs more than someone trying to predict costs of a theoretical grow. My bad dude.

Edit: I wrote out a whole long thing explaining why you should do it, but now I'm trimming it to:
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Yes I definitely advise clones ...a much shorter time till you harvest and you don't have to fuck with the delicate seedling stage

Find a strain you like, grow out a mother and make all the clones you want.

Meh from personal experience, unless you plan on dedicated a good amount of money and time to the venture you're better of just buying your herb. That said growing a few plants for fun is totally fun, but I wouldn't expect getting a shit ton of weed, especially off your first few grows, especially if you're only growing a few plants.
My advice? Pick of the Grower's Bible by Jorge Cervantes (can be found on Amazon)
Read through that, and then pick up a few clones; or grow from seed if you like; both are fun imo; clones are faster. Don't be surprised if you loose a few clones or seedlings, especially after you transfer outdoors (if you transfer outdoors). But yeah just experiment with growing a few (2-4). In my experience you can legit grow them on your windowsill and then transfer outdoors if you don't want to bother with buying a lot of equipment.
But yeah you're better of considering it as a hobby at first. Once you start to get the hang of growing then you can start to invest more money and time and grow more plants and then you'll be able to expect decent returns in terms of harvest weight.
